ome Headquarters is the
link between the Serving
Regiment and past members of
the 9th/12th Royal Lancers and
its antecedent Regiments. The
most important aspect of our
work is the administration of the ,
Charitable Association. This is a I
Registered Charity whose main
aim is to give financial help to
those who have served in the '
Regiment if they are in need. .
Each year every serving member of the Regiment gives up one
day’s pay for the benefit of the Association which generates an
income of over £18,000. Additionally, many retired officers
donate generously towards the filnd each year and we also have
some income from investments.
As can be seen in the accounts published elsewhere in the Delhi
Spearman we distribute some £24,000 annually in benevolent
grants and payments. Additionally, we also help to maintain the
many valuable items such as medals, pictures, war memorials and
other artefacts belonging to the Regiment and we also help the
Regiment to buy sports and adventurous training equipment
which cannot always be supplied by the Army.
Because the Army and indeed the Regiment has, since World War
11, decreased in size the financial contribution from serving s01-
diers has been getting proportionally smaller. On the other hand
the population in this country is getting older as people live
longer and State Benefits are not always keeping pace with the
ever-increasing demands put on our Government Welfare
Agencies.

HHQ relies very much on SSAFA volunteers to inform us when
someone is in need. They also help us to assess the scale of finan-
cial assistance needed. Once we get a report and it is a straight-
forward matter we can react within a week. In more complex
cases, especially where greater sums are needed and we have to
involve the Army Benevolent Fund; then, we usually hope to set-
tle within two or three weeks.
We therefore are very grateful to all those members of the
Regiment who, in the past, have contributed so generously to the
funds of the Association and hopefully will continue to do so in
the future ; whether this is through the ‘One Day’s Pay Scheme’ or
by donations after retirement.
