REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) 77 Annual Report of the Band of the 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers OCA a: ’ HI ..... 9L Band Reunion 2002 “Magnificent” 7 “The best so far” 7 yes these were but two of the comments to be heard from the attendees of the 5th Annual Reunion held at the Monkbar Hotel, York in September last year. Our Association is growing at a ready rate and we now welcome not only former bandsmen to our ranks but also former colleagues from the Regiment. Needless to say we are returning to York on the 15th/16th August this year to celebrate our 6th Annual Reunion at the same hotel. We recently elected Harry Whitwell as our President 7 Harry was a very popular Trumpet Major, respected not only for the manner in which he carried out his band duties but also for his sporting prowess when representing the Regiment. This year has seen the advent of support from former 9th Lancers officers who we served under when stationed in Detmold, Germany in the fifties 7 we look forward to our 6th Reunion in anticipation of some if not all of them sitting down to dinner with us. As I stated in previous years we are a self sup- porting financially sound Association 7 we have over the years since inception cultivated an ‘eXtended’ family type atmosphere for our members which is evident at reunion weekends and in time of sickness and bereavement. Our membership is worldwide, Canada, USA and New Zealand and invariably we have at least one couple who come over to our reunions but last year we had the pleasure of the company of three couples from Canada, USA and Spain respectively. Everyone is kept up to date with news via our very own newslet- ter the ‘Lancer’ which is published about four times a year 7 we also wear custom made ties based on the former 9th Lancer tie with small 9L motifs on the red 7 not bad really for an Association still in it’s infancy. Furthermore, one of our dedi- cated members from the Regiment, Geoff Bridge, a man who must be known to every man still living who wore the 9th Lancer uniform, commissioned the making of small badges to be worn by all of us in the lapel of our jackets 7 a splendid ges- ture by a man who gave me the first telephone contact which started the ball rolling over five years ago. All of us are indebt- ed to you Geoff in more ways than one. Well gentlemen if any former 9th Lancer requires further infor- mation please contact our Secretary, Dennis Williams on 01443 224221. King regards to everyone D H aydock C OS TELLO CIVIL 8: MILITARY BESPOKE TAILORS Thiloring is an art, which we have perfected to unparalleled standards.
