MAN’S gone by. The end of the month was the infamous Ex
PLUNGERS CLAW At this point and just in the nick of time
Mr EB returned to retake the reins after competing in the Gold
Cup achieving 7th place (he assures us there were more than 7
competitors), Ex PLUNGERS CLAW proved to be a very test-
ing exercise and resulted in Cpl “careful down here or you will
fallll” Saul falling and breaking his leg.
After a period of leave we deployed to the then arctic wastes of
BATUS for what was to be a very exciting time. The Troop
became Tank Coy 1, 2nd Platoon and had lots of opportunities
for Adv Trg and road trips. The MED MAN exercises were a
great learning and proving ground and gave Cpl (denners death
before daylight) Farren a chance to hone his sniper like skills. A
special thanks at this point goes out to our Combat Tourist for
MMl Mr “I only tampered with it” Woodward who joined us for
a rest before embarking on his Troop Leaders Course. In June
the Troop returned, albeit briefly for some, to Hohne where after
a short break we then split to the four winds, Cpl’s Farren and
Saul went back to BATUS with Tpr (it wasn’t me) Campbell,
Cpl Bennison went on his Crew Comd’s Cse and Tpr’s Walker,
Dickinson and Liburd to the RRT leaving the remnants to
spend the summer with the vehicle park, ITDS and courses.
September saw the newly promoted SSgt Ian Clarke dragged
somewhat reservedly away to run the Wives Club exercise with
the advice don’t listen to the rumours, it can’t be that bad and
I’m sure they won’t drink that much. As it happened it was a
great success but they really can drink that much. The end of
September brought the much anticipated Ex RAMPAGING
LANCER which took those without a good enough excuse back
to basic soldering, unfortunately Staff Clarke had twisted part of
his anatomy and couldn’t attend but was assured it was a worth-
while experience.
In October Mr EB left the Troop to move to A Sqn as the pend-
ing Bosnia tour meant he would not be able to drive his tractor.
This then left the Troop in the capable hands of SSgt Clarke.
Congratulations also go out to the now Cpl “can I go skiing
again” Bennison who assumed the junior Tp Cpl’s slot in the
Troop. With a new influx of fresh blood, including on his pro-
motion Sgt Taff (where’s the Guidon) Brooksbank. November
saw the Troop up to full strength again and ready for the Train
The Trainer OPTAG package, which climaxed with a good pub-
lic order battle against A Squadron! The year ended before
another Xmas leave on a high note with the Sqn winning the
PETO Cup, having Sgt Taff (Twinkle Toe’s) Brooksbank as one
