Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 2002
Transcription 20 REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S)
C Squadron
his year has been a busy and varied one for C Squadron
and, as ever, it has been met with the usual mixture of
undaunted professionalism and humour. Early in the year, the
Squadron deployed to Hohne Ranges in February for yet anoth-
er excellent Regimental Gunnery Camp. The level of gunnery
was very high with every crew passing their Annual Crew Test
at the first attempt. The results were similar following the
Annual Section Tests.
As the front cover suggests, the bulk of 2002 was occupied with
the Regiment’s OPFOR commitment in BATUS with C
Squadron supplying personnel for all five MEDICINE MAN
Exercises. As well as Tank and Infantry Companies, the Base
Administration Group was also built upon C Squadron person-
alities for the majority of the year, which ensured that the
OPFOR was effectively run and, inevitably, successful. Between
exercises, many grasped the many travel and adventure training
opportunities that a BATUS deployment offers with individuals
travelling as far as Southern Mexico and Northern Alaska.
Needless to say, the OPFOR role also provided the Squadron
with invaluable combined arms field training. This is covered
in depth in the BATUS OPFOR Article.

Upon our return to Hohne, C
Squadron’s was directed to offer
up personnel to address the
manpower shortfalls for B
Squadron and their forthcoming
Bosnia tour and A Squadron’s
LATF commitment. As sad as
this sounds, it should be pointed
out that C Squadron robbed and
pillaged from both A and B
Squadrons prior to its very suc- 7
cessful Kosovo tour in 1999.
What goes around, comes
around ~ and I am certain that
this time next year, C Squadron ,
will be at full strength again and ‘I
preparing for an operational
tour in the Balkans or elsewhere.

Anyway, I will end this brief introduction here and let the
Troops describe 2002 in their own words.
