Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 2005
Transcription REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) Z7
into theatre at the beginning of October with his select few to
manage the G4 for the reception camp which saw all of 7 Armd
Bd personnel staging through. The detail about the tour to date
I shall leave as this will be covered in the troop and department
notes that are to follow. All that remains is to say farewell to
those that have departed the Squadron, far too many to mention
each one individually and to thank every member including
families for their professionalism and support during a very
busy period. Hopefully next year will see some quality time
with our families which we all deserve and plenty of down time
for adventure training and sport, inshaalla.

As with all journal notes the farewells and the welcomes, comes
the obligatory introduction before highlighting the stories of yet
again another busy year. These notes are no different, so here
goes:
Clicking their heals three times and repeating “There’s no place
like home.” WOZ Holmes and SSgt Ramsden departed on Ryan
Air from Hamburg to the UK for the last time. Capt Stu
McGann must have clicked harder, he managed a place near to
his roots and left with a huge heart felt thanks from all his col-
leagues in the Regiment.
So along came a new welcome mat at the Tech main entrance,
with flowers and the smell of fresh coffee prepared for all that
entered. Replacing those no longer in BA (G) were Capt Denny
Denton straight from his course at the renowned Deepcut
school of excellence and WOZ Mick Welborn kicking and
screaming from C Sqn. SSgt ‘Chalkie’ White moved to a larger
desk on promotion and Tpr Bobby Moore joined the merry
band (although we were never quite sure, from where, how or
why).
Right, onto work.
At the earliest opportunityplans ofa grand nature were made to
ensure that the vehicles would get to Iraq on time. These were
then followed by the more complex plans of getting the vehicles
to 2Bn in Fallingbostel some 30 km down the road. Training
started and Cpl “Dirk” Prince found himself competing for
“Best section Commander in Tech” award against Cpl “Show me
the first aid stand” Simmons and LCpl “TELIC” Murrell, who
could be heard giving guidance on how the rover group did
business on TELIC 3 to anyone interested. Note: Do not worry
Danny; Mons Moy is coming save the stories for the OCA.
The training now completed, we deployed leaving a rear party
increased by the RQMS(T) who waited until the last safe
moment to carry out a routine straight from the film “Escape to
Victory” and got his left leg (or was it right...it changed so
often?) put in a cast.
We are well into the task now and have been improved with the
addition of Cpl Jay O’Dowd from the RSDG, who at every turn
try to get him back up to Maysan (sorry Joe). C Sqn RSDG has
been attached and SSgt (SQMS) Mack has had to adapt to the
Lancers way of life (G4) very quickly. We have also gained Sgt
Daz Langston which has given us usefiJl stability, having suf-
fered a loss with Cpl “Dibbs” Derbyshire going on promotion to
UK.
Finally from Denny, Mick, Chalky, Daz, Rob, Verdie, Jay (Re-
badging), Keith (REME), Simmo, Prina (Plastic Pad), Cholers
(even more plastic) Cammie, Kenny, JC, Ben, Danny, Mark,
Fruit, Yoz and Wilko. We would like to say a big thank you to
all of our wives and children. Their constant support is what
makes this well oiled alcoholfree department, tick.
AGC Detachment
This has been an exciting year for us with lots of new faces and
opportunities for training and deployments.
As always we are involved in the ever evolving world of admin
and assisting in the many problems that face us in our everyday
work lives. This has brought the best out of the Det and it has
seen many improvements personally and professionally from
everyone.

April provided excellent weather for what was the Detachments
first Adventure Training jaunt in an extremely long time. The
expedition brought us together in an environment that was wel-
come away from the solitude that is Hohne Garrison.
We spent the best part of over a week learning that there is a lot
more to Spain than Sangria and Senioritas. For most us the lat-
ter was well out of reach as the majority either had partners or
were just plain rubbish at talking to the opposite sex during offi-
cial periods of R&R
It was a huge shame that we were not granted visas for some of
the Det prior to the trip and we had to fill the spaces with will-
ing volunteers of the Bde admin staff. Nevertheless we all had a
thoroughly enjoyable time thinking of the workers back in
Hohne as Capt Tresh Matthews tucked into his 14th San
Miguel. Everyone looked particularly happy prior to the walks
or was that laughing at the bloke standing in the vest, trying to
improve his tan.
