16 REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) Sqn and moved into the QM (T) dept, a place where old soldiers never die they just simply fade away. Sgt Fleetwood later to be posted into B Sqn and eventually take on Sgt Curl’s role. Cpl Casey was drawn in from GW Troop after a rather admirable effort on his Signals Instructors course, yes you guessed right he got a C grade. Capt (Call me legs) Evans, the ZiC moved into the newly re-shaped A Sqn after the Op TELIC 7 Orbat was revealed, revised and finally the revision revised then revealed (phewll) Capt (Pressure Pad) Panter came in as Sqn ZiC. Whilst still at the helm of this sometimes unwieldy ship is Major Jones supported by the Squadron Sergeant Major WOZ Hayes. So on top of all that exactly what else have we all been up to this year, well? Comms support for the Recruit Firing period, CAST, In Barracks Training (IBT), OPTAG, Annual Live Firing (ALF) and of course all the usual ITDs, briefs and general support for the Sqn and Regiment. There have been many highlights so far and thankfully very few lows. Just a few of the highs were: Tpr Biss found looking for furry Wild Boar eggs during ALF Cpl Millington caught pondering about why fish have fins and when quizzed “Is it a process of evolution or just water pollu- tion”? No they have them for swimming!! Sgt Fleetwood and Tpr Bennett, finally taking the plunge and getting married, congratulations! Since arriving in Iraq, in middle to late Oct 05, SHQ has found itself split between 2 locations within the Squadron area of oper- ations. Al Faaw (AF) in the south and Basra Palace (BP) in the north. The story so far: Basra Palace As we start what seems to be our 10th month on tour and our 5th day on LSSAwe finally made it to Basra Palace from Shiba. The Journey from the Log Base to Basra Palace was one journey which so far has not involved the digging out of the Sqn Ldr and his Land Rover, a task that comes along far too often. Thank god for helicopters. Our 2 new Rover Group drivers quickly established themselves into their new role. Tpr McCabe excelling by winning the best kept Snatch in the Battle Group (co-incidentally the OC’s driv- er and the only one inspected) and Tpr Kohut proving that he was the worst driver in the Battle Group by immediately crash- ing into a local civilian (again as the OC’s driver) and on a sep- arate occasion into Cpl Casey. All this within 2 months ofbeing posted here. Cpl Millington, a new addition from the QRL, joined us in the- atre as the Rover Group Commander. Quickly establishing him- self as a rather Victorian Nanny by scalding everybody as if they were very naughty children. LCpl Pamment (very Arabic looking) joins in as top cover, as does Tpr Browne when they are not in the Operations Room. LCpl Pamment often being asked on patrol if he is an Iraqi whilst Tpr Browne has become obsessed about going bald. Sorry Browney but you definitely are! LCpl Gibson, AGC and Tpr Bottomley complete the all star line up. Captain Richmond and LCpl Barry head up G2/3. Captain Richmond, the Squadron Liaison and Intelligence Captain (SLIC), makes a great show of doing all the work, thus leaving u‘ ' Phoefl/X down |
