Boat Patro!s on the Shatt A/ Arab,
Indeed the Palace based troops also seem to be enjoying the
experience, but with a slightly more frantic pace of life than at
‘Al Fat’. Tpr ‘Stavross’ Keane has come clean as a distant rela-
tive of Bob Hoskins whilst LCpl Allen is the heir to the largest
collection of lampshades in the world! In addition Tpr Carter
has emerged as the oldest nineteen year old in the Regiment;
aging at a rate that will see him bald by twenty. Cpl Lucas
enjoyed his tour, initially providing the Troop with regular
doses of morale, but then dealing the greatest blow to morale
possible by getting unexpectedly posted to Bovington in
December!

2nd Troop (Boot Troop)
What have Mr Minards, Sgt James, Cpls Day and Train, LCpl
Humble and Troopers Bedson, Olive, Parkinson, Wood, Green
998 and Reynolds got in common? Despite their combined fat-
ness they all managed to fit into one Snatch, just one of the
many achievements of Boot Troop this year. From Gunnery
Camp to In Barracks Training, OPTAG to deployment, Boot
Troop have behaved in a cheerful and (mostly) proficient man-
ner. The build up to TELIC 7 seemed especiallyprolongedwith
In Barracks Training starting in June followedbyOPTAG. Boot
Troop has remained resourceful and good humoured through-
out. Deploying on Op TELIC 7 2nd Troop have been enjoying
the delights of the Al Faaw peninsula. C - uucting OP on the

Shatt Al Arab Waterway to getting bogged in amongst the vast
expanse of soft sand, both multiples have worked hard to con-
duct their patrols in a professional yet cheerful manner. Newly
promoted LCpl Preston had been given parole from the
Officer’s Mess in early August with part of his rehabilitation
being a couple of months work experience with Boot Troop. He
enjoyed himself, but must have broken his parole agreement as
he was suddenly withdrawn up to the dark place that is Basra
Palace! LCpl Harold as always showed a solid and dependable
contribution to the Troop, but I have a feeling it all got to him
as he was eventually found floating on an inflatable armchair in
the flooded entrance to Camp Driftwood looking rather
deranged.
LCpl Dickinson has grown possibly the most suspect moustache
ever to grace a face, well almost; I have seen women with denser
upper lip fluff than Trooper Gray It was like having two
‘Magnums’ in one multiple without the Ferrari. A highlight in
December was LCpl (nee Tpr) Bloomer picking up his first
stripe from none other than the Prime Minister. Story has it,
the PM didn’t know what a rank-slide was, but was none the less
trying to hand them away to anyone. ‘Pants’ Bloomer took his
with a smile while being filmed by BBC News; he even volun-
teered the head ofthe government a bit of advice on the running
of the UK, the suggestion that VAT be taken off all pork pies.
One or two heads dropped on the lead up to Christmas, Cpls
Day, Train, Hobson and Hall especially when their whole lives
nearly washed away in the ‘Great Floods of Camp Driftwood’,
the standing waters also encouraged sparrow sized mosquitoes.
