Intelligence Cell
The start of the year saw Cpl “Tiny” Tylney and Tpr “Ned”
Lander as the main stay’s of the Int cell/training wing, along
with W02 “Dez” Henderson, However things were soon to
change.
W02 Henderson has handed his sports kit over to W02
Rathbone and made a dash for civi strasse; we wish him and his
wife Steffi well in the future. We have a new Training Officer,
Capt Josh Jacobs; who is now the pastiest looking man in NATO
(a sun tan would do him wonders). Tpr Cooper was posted in
from the Regimental Recruitment Team. The team was com-
pleted with the additions of Tpr Wilson from the Officers Mess
and adding a bit of laid back South African flair, LCpl “Ray”
Nyambira from the SQMS department.
The troop embarked on a busy period of training in preparation
for deployment as the Regimental Int cell in Iraq. A bit of a
change from training, librarian’s duties and map demands. Ned
and Ray departed for an Int course in England, Tpr Wilson
decided to accompany them to the UK only to find out he was-
n’t on the course (maybe a good idea to check before you go next
time!)
Cpl “Danny” Hallas managed to get himself promoted and took
over from Tiny who has now moved on to new pastures in com-
mand troop; or should that be pastures revisited. With the
ORBAT finally fixed, the team departed for Sennelager to
engage in some intense 0PTAG training, the IO is counting his
bruises from the riot training.
The troop is now firmly located in Battle Group HQ in Iraq with
the intelligence empire reinforced by the addition of Cpl
Townend, the 10’s PA. We are currently planning all the James
Bondesque missions for the Regt to undertake. Tpr Cooper has
now been promoted from brew boy to chief filer, replacing Tpr
Wilson who has moved on to become the L0 for the LEC’S.
The Intelligence officer and the Int Sgt Major continue to keep
the office going with their fast wit and humour, while the lads
remain studious as ever, engrossed in the art oflink analysis and
attempting to track the anarchic world of Southern Iraq.
It just remains to wish Cpl Nyambira and his wife good luck as
they are expecting their first child in the New Year.
Catering Troop
With a lull in demand for catering support the Catering Troop,
in the early part of 2005, was able to programme initiatives that
would see personnel undertake appropriate career courses and
adventure training. By March 05, as the training cycle and
catering commitments increased the focal point of the Troop
became the undertaking of 0PTAG Training and the introduc-
tion of Total Quality Management procedures in readiness for
the operational deployment to Iraq.
I’te’s Abdul Sambou and Albert Bispart found themselves in
Bavaria undertaking a proficiency ski course, however it wasn’t
long before Pte Sambou returned to Hohne nursing a twisted
ankle. Nonetheless he enjoyed the experience promising never
to return to a snow capped country. Meanwhile, and on promo-
tion, LCpl Sean Bennett successfully completed the RLC
Military proficiency course, whilst LCpl Emma Allen tempted
Jamie Oliver with her culinary delights during her Chef Class
One course held in Aldershot.
The turn of April saw the troop provide catering support to the
60th Anniversary ofthe Liberation of Bergen/Belsen, a task that
Pte Levy/s about to be rum ovefl
was to test all elements of the logistic plan. Catering for approx-
imately 750 members of the Jewish community and elements of
the Royal Family, combined with a typically Kosher menu, was
no easy feat that certainly transpired to be a success for all that
attended.
The construction of a field catering facility within the estate of
the Regimental Restaurant gave Cpl Danny Kay the opportuni-
ty to revive his culinary skills by providing real time insulated
cuisine for elements of the Regiment undertaking the annual
Firing Camp. Whilst the food proved to be popular, the Ration
Stores are still struggling to develop further initiatives to reduce
a mountain of pasta derivatives from lasagne to pasta shells.
The move to undertake 0PTAG training in Sennelager saw the
troop develop a logistic template that was to be adopted by all 7
Armoured Brigade units. Undertaking military training whilst
also catering for the Regiment motivated and fostered a high
degree of team spirit and interplay within the Troop and
amongst other sub-units. The arrival of Pte Jodie Lewis on to
the Public Order scene ensured the reputation of the Troop as a
multi-skilled and disciplined body. Indeed her enthusiasm cer-
tainly knocked others of their feet! Meanwhile Cpl Mick
Buchan continues to express how busy he was in ‘Tin City’ only
no one could ever find him; questions were being asked if he
ever existed.
Our return from summer leave saw the departure of Sgt Andy
Savage on promotion to SSgt and the subsequent arrival of
newly promoted Sgt Chris Wyatt and Pte Lee Campbell. Final
preparations for the deployment on 0P TELIC 07 were com-
pleted, which also saw the arrival of Pte Amy Dawson from The
TA Light Infantry to bolster current manning shortfalls.
A good days WO/K
