Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 2005
Transcription REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) 47
tions of fire and movement with water pistols, followed by the
children taking over their paddling pool.
July saw the start of OPTAG training, with the Regiment
deploying to Sennalager. Whilst there being some points to
remember, the one that springs to mind was to see mess mem-
bers from HQ squadron getting petrol bombed. The term “old
guard”, sprang to mind when HQ Squadron formed its ranks for
the riot, with the RSM and other mess members leading the way
and giving the young pups a run for there money. Until the neXt
morning when none of them could move, looking more like
Chelsea pensioners than teeth arm troops. The Regiment
returned to do some more Regimental led training before going
on a well earned summer break.
After the break we returned to have a “not” the summer ball
before A Squadron departed for the UK. The weather was very
favourable and all enjoyed the evening, some more than others.
The sporting calendar has been limited this year but the mess
did manage to play the Officers at cricket. The Officers were
dubiously victorious with some creative scoring. Needless to
say the mess thoroughly beat them in the clubhouse. Highlights
of the match were watching the RSM catch Capt Keeney and
some fast bowling by W02 SSM Andy Dynes and SSgt Lee
Beutell.
This then led us into the deployment on Op Telic 7 and seeing
the mess shut as its members scatter like Bedouin into the
desert. Some members managed to gather for Christmas dinner
only watch in ore as the RCWO Mark Nottingham and Sgt Jim
Asher were filmed with Christmas cake creation.
The mess members are now all looking forward to the post tour
extravaganza which promises to be “a rite good knee’s up”.
