Most of the Troop took part in the Brigade Adventurous
Training package. Tpr “Arnie” Arnold went off sailing, found
that he liked it so much, went back to do some more and gain
some sailing qualifications as well. Tpr Joyce enjoyed the multi
activity week in Bavaria and Tpr Scott enjoyed falling out of the
sky completing a week at Sennelager Parachuting Centre. Last
but by no means least is Tpr AiXill who arrived fresh from basic
training, sailed from Gosport to Gibraltar, then went to the
Officers’ Mess as a waiter for his trouble. With the majority of
the Troop being away for long periods of time it was just as well
that the vehicles where sent to Ayrshire Bks to be Bowmanised.

Support Troop
Our story begins in May when the long deserved and much
needed POTL ended. This heralded the re-birth of the glorious
Support Troop.
The newly appointed Troop Leader came in the form of the
short, compact Mr Knight, ably assisted by the meticulous Sgt
Broadhurst who’s frequently heard saying “dot every i, cross
every t”. Cpl Hackney returned to the Troop, as did Cpl Doherty
from his comfy job in Command Troop. Also returning to the
bosom of Support Troop is LCpl “Lewy” Lewis who remains as
Sgt Bloadhurst po/‘sed.’
reliable as ever on the Vehicle Park and LCpl “Brenda” Rushton
who was entirely too comfortable in his schoolgirl outfit during
Mons Moy. We also had LCpl “Monkey” Reid swinging our way
from the OC’s Rover Group. To complete this cast of rogues are
Tprs Pearce who returned to us, Tpr Gilbert straight from his
travels to Button Moon, where he is a princess!!!!! The arrival of
Tpr Cramphorn was slightly delayed due to mistakenly thinking
he was Sterling Moss on the winding roads to Hohne, resulting
in a short stay in the Hospital, and bringing up the rear for a
short time was Tprs Phillips and Impey, who are now serving
with the QRL in Catterick.
July saw eight members of our ‘elite’ Support Troop selected for
an Advanced Engineers Course lasting five weeks. Their new
found skills would be tested to the max when the Squadron was
selected to show to the Brigade the Regiment’s capabilities.
Many phone calls were made to various Engineer units to gath-
er the equipment and enable us to show off the skills within
Support Troop. After many rehearsals we were ready. On ‘D-
Day’ the unlucky Mr Knight managed to fall off a Sultan while
having a face to face with Sgt “Hayley” Blunt, badly damaging
his knee. With the Study Day over and the equipment returned,
the Troop then embarked on various Adventurous Training
activities. Someone even managed to go to Australia on the
RAC Rugby Tour at the ripe old age of 29.
The end of the year saw both the Troop Leader and Troop
Sergeant having to undergo surgery for their knee injuries and
taking two weeks rest and recuperation. It’s now a Troop com-
petition to see who will be back to operational effectiveness first,
will it be Lt Knight or Sgt Broadhurst?

Guided Weapons Troop
The re-forming of the Squadron happened after the POTL peri-
od and immediately the business of barrack soldiering contin-
ued as undiminished in intensity as ever before. The Troop was
lead by Lt Lloyd-Owen, after his return from the SSR cell on Op
TELIC 7, and Sgt Noone, who escaped from the clutches of Lt
Knight to come and run, in a very efficient manner, the Troop
administration. Our Striker vehicles were returned to us and
suddenly (less the shortage of one Troop Cpl) we had a full com-
pliment of soldiers and vehicles 7 a rather unusual phenomenon
these days.
