REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) ll ENDEX/ Cp/ Beute// and Tpr Nash to deploy in its recce role, giving the Troops the unique experi- ence of reporting genuinely large bodies of enemy rather than two Land Rovers with mine-tape. The Sqn, less the Sqn Ldr’s Land Rover, finally made it back by the beginning of November and after some well earned leave, it was back to work removing the huge amount of desert from the vehicles and taking part in the social lunacy that is the Regimental run up to Christmas. The Sqn has performed to the highest standards throughout the year maintaining a strong ethos of professionalism and tolerance while ensuring that it is a filn and friendly Sqn to be part of. The high standards achieved this year will support the Sqn through the many challenges that will undoubtedly present themselves in the next technical firing camp in February and as OPFOR again in BATUS 2002. lst Troop This year has seen many a change in the wonder that is lst Troop, and the personnel changes have been intense with com- ings and goings a regularplace. Lt Catheybegan the exodus with a 'Cheers easy' in the wonderful land of Oz. The weeks of surf- boards and Castlemaine XXXX were followed by a move to the ranks of C Sqn. Sgt (Barry Sheen) Clarke swapped the rattle of tracks for the purr of Harley Davidson and joined SHQ as the D&M Sgt/Easy Rider, a role to which he quickly adapted with maximum ease - funny that! LCpl Albert Hall has also left the fold with a post to Bovington as Training Sqn Corporal. LCpl Sgt Spr/hg, Cp/ Beutte// and Cp/ Roberts , hot and bothered Cri/s Beute// and GaHey , soft b/okes/ Owens moved to B Sqn and Tpr Bottomley disappeared off to ACIO Leicester for a few months. Tpr Crowe joined the ranks of 1 UK Civ Div, Tpr Tigger Bailess left mit 'Yorkie bar’ for MT and Cpl Whawell departed leaving us devoid of his charm and sophis- tication in order to bolster the ranks of GW And finally, the dis- tinct sound ofammo boot and pace stick accompanied the depar- ture of LCpl Challenger to Warminster as Provost Staff Of course, all of the above had to be replaced, and no expense was spared when the choices were made. Lt Cathey was replaced by 2Lt Willis fresh from Sandhurst who arrived claiming 'Diplomatic Immunity', as all self respecting South Africans do, although it was soon explained to him that this was completely unnecessary, as he was in no trouble whatsoever and that we were in fact quite fond of him. Sgt 'Slasher' Andrews returned from the Signals School and every aspiring Signals Instructor in the Royal Armoured Corps breathed a sigh of relief. The CMO is now inundated with requests for Signals Instructor courses as potentials seek to take advantage of his absence. Cpl Beuttell swapped his Ammo boots for Cpl Whawell's vacant size 9’s and bade a sad farewell to the RSM and the guardroom. A sideburn epidemic coincid- ed with his departure and some 'Old school' members of the Regiment claim that the 'Provost fear factor' also disappeared with him! The Fun Factory produced some newer members of the troop in the shape of Tpr 'Ted' Fielding, Tpr Reynolds and Tpr 'Linford' Christie. The token Mad Scotsmen Slot was filled by Tpr Stevens and Tpr 'Tel' Hopkins was signed on temporary loan from Support Troop, who appeared more than willing to give him up. / /ove the desert A// th/s fresh arr/s so healthy |
