was to last for a full day and the sports ranged from unihoc to
swimming. We even held a mini-athletics competition, which
involved an event to determine who could throw a Frisbee the
filrthest.
We have also been kept busy this year organising a variety ofother
sporting events, ranging from inter-squadron swimming and ath-
letics, to even bigger events such as hosting the Zone ‘B’ East
swimming and water polo championships, a Divisional event.
Over the year we have seen a few new faces come and go in the
gymnasium: Tpr Jez ‘I forget everything’ Marland, Tpr ‘PVR’
Bull and LCpl ‘Doris, I’m off to Leconsfield’ Day. Good luck to
Doris for the filture! One person I have forgotten to mention is
Tpr ‘Yourpicking on me’ Nash who came in the gym for his pre-
course training and borrowed some kit 7 which he has yet to
return! (Nosh where is the stopwatchll)
One of the biggest events of the year was the Mons Moy week-
end, with Mr Preston organising an ‘It’s a Knockout’ competi-
tion for the Saturday afternoon. One snag, announced by Mr
Preston at the last minute, was that he was going to his brother’s
wedding during the same weekend! Yes, you guessed it, he
asked if the gym staff would run the competition with Mr
Milne-Hume doing the commentary on the microphone. We
happily obliged and what a great time was had by all.
We all now look forward to the coming year and, as plans have
it, hopefully we will have a lot more PTIs in the regiment.
Light Aid Detachment
As always, 2001 has been a busy year for the LAD. There has
been a change over of key personalities - WOl Judd Larsen arriv-
ing just in time for the Regimental Exercise in Bavaria, following
WOl Kevin Smith’s successful commissioning into the Light
Dragoons, and WOZ (AQMS) Graham Lawrence also left on pro-
motion to be replaced by WOZ (AQMS) John Netherwood.
January began with a TECHEVAL and was closely followed by
preparation for the Regimental Firing Camp and the implemen-
tation of the C Sqn Out of Use program. The OC LAD became
the British Ladies ski bike champion, ably assisted by a com-
plete lack of competition - A commendable third place was
attained in the overall event even though there were more than
three competitors.
February was filled by the Regimental Firing Camp, during which
Sgt Meeke was awarded the best shot in the Regiment for the
Variant, GPMG, Cupola shoot. C Sqn Fitter Section deployed to
Kosovo in support of their Squadron and 2 RTR Battle Group.
The tour itself was extremely busy and saw Cpl “Ginge” Davies
having a lucky escape when his Samson rolled during a recovery
task. The HQ element of the LAD also deployed into the local
area to practice echelon skills on EX HARD QUORUM.
March saw the Regiment deploy and return sooner than expect-
ed from Bavaria when EX SWABIAN CRUSADE fell victim to
