he Regimental rugby team managed to get to the final of the
Royal Armoured Corps Cup (Germany Section) during last
season. Sadly it was by default because the teams that we were
meant to play were unable to meet the fixtures due to other com-
mitments. The great climax to the season just did not happen; I
think it is fair to say that the season simply fizzled out. We then
lost nine key players as C Squadron deployed to Kosovo on OP
AGRICOLA. Sadly, this prevented any rugby from being played
during the summer months. In mid-June, I received a phone call
from the Rugby Officer of2 RRF, he wanted to know ifwe could
fill some vacancies on their rugby tour to Australia. The tour was
for three weeks and included a ticket for the final match between
the British Lions and the Wallabies at Stadium Australia in
Sydney. Cpl Ted Waring REME was the only player able to take
part in the tour, during which the team played four matches and
had a great time sightseeing around Sydney, Bondi Beach and the

Blue Mountains. The start of the 2001 7 2002 season was inter-
rupted by the Regiments deployment on EX SAIF SAREEA II.
The vast majority of the team soaked up the sun in the Omani
desert until November. We did however manage to complete a
couple of training sessions and a game against 3 RHA before the
Regiment departed. It was a tough match, with both teams mak-
ing a number ofunforced errors but I am very pleased to say that
the team came out as winners in this local derby. We now look
forward to the first round of the Army Rugby Union Challenge
Cup (ARUCC) where we will face the Black Watch and who
knows, in 2002 we may be able to complete the RAC cup compe-
tition.
Regimental Sports Colours were presented to Cpl Broadhurst,
Cpl Wick and Cpl Worgan.
