Major Edgar linally hands back the keys oi the SUB
In February 1983, a firm called Canons
based in Celle donated a SUBARU 4
wheel drive estate car for the use of all
Ranks ll'l lhe Regiment. All We had to
pay for was the petrol, insurance and
maintenance. The car was put to
a variety of uses,
lt's priine purpose was for
Advenlure and Challenge Pursuit
Training, The two maior events were
the Adventure Training phase of Ex
Mountain Goat in Langenburg and Ex
Happy Voltigeui in France. ltwas
invaluable on both occasions.
Moreover the car demonstrated it’s
worth in towing canoe trailers,
assisting in mountain walking
expeditions and board sailing camps.
On Heconnaissances and in the
delivery and collection of varied
specialist equipment. It's final

adventure training trip was on Ex
Snow Queen in Bavaria this Winter.
The car was used in support of
sporting activmes in general
throughout 1983 The towbar was
extremely useful for general purpose
trailers as well as horse boxes
Further, ll‘ie ready availability of such a
car eased the pressure on scarce
military resources for small teams leg
anglers, archers and road runners)
who have to attend distant meetings
The princrpal employed was to make
maximum use of the car for the benefit
of soldiers young and old, No hire
charge was levted and the booking
procedure kept simple. Thus, soldiers
Without their own cars were able to
teach their Wives to drive, collect or
deliver parents. wives or children from
airports, stations and Schools.

Unfortunately when we left Hohne
we had to give up the car to our
successors. As it was in a garage
being mended after an acmdem in the
snowy Bavarian Alps in January The
Subaru was finally handed over, With
greal regret, in the Middle of April
1984.
