The Reglrnental Hockey Team » Wolfenbuttel 1984; Back Row: Lt Reed, wo

Thls season has been a [true of
reorganlsation and change tn the
9/12L hockey world. In Hohne a lot of
our strength came from a very
expenenced and skilled LAD
contingent, men Ilke Staff Walsh and
Sgt Elnck, enabled us to reach the
finals ot both the Cavalry Cup and 1st
Armoured Dlvlslon Cup last season,
We were sad to see them exchange
the Regtmental strlp tor the green and
black ol the Welsh Guards, However,
all was not lost tor "."O Gowrnan, the
lynch pm of the hockey team for the
last 3 seasons, accompanled us to
Woltenbuttel. Here he has helped to
bulld a new team, drawn almost
unlquely from the sabre troops, The
move has meant the reappearance of
many lorgotten laces and even the
discovery of some new talent,
especially among the forwards, It also
resulted in the Band returnlng once
more to Reglmental hockey and,
under the enlhusrasttc guldanoe 01
Staff McGauley, has provtded a useful
soarrlng partner for the Reglrnental
Team, as well as a pool at reserves
from whlch to draw
One ol the few advantages Holme
held over Wolfenbuttel was lt’s
accessablllty for matches, and thls has
certalnly been felt when trylng to
arrange league fixtures with other
teams. Not surprisrngly, because of
the new team, It has not been a year
of great successes. Our first match ln
Woltenbuttel was played away agalnst
the ACC Dlsaster struck when a hard
shot broke O Gowrnan’s wrist and we
lost the game 2 , l. More recently we
went to Hohne for the Dlvlslonal Slx ,3
, Slde Contpetltlon. This agaln ended
wtth a casualty when an opponent
came olt wrth a broken leg after a
close encounter with (Lt Reed) the
goalle. Unfortunately we stlll lost!

However, It was a very good effort
provlng that we certainly have the
talent for a very good squad next
season, even rt we lack expenence.
The team whlch played was, Lt
Carver, Lt Reed, Cpl Lyons, Cpl
Moulds, LCpl Franklm, Tprs Wlnters,
Ives, Ducker and Trolley.
Flnally, the Reglmenl would llke to
say goodbye to O Gowman and Col
Lyons who thl not be wtth us at the
ttme of the next Issue, lt has been
largely due to thelr unftagglng energy
and commltment over the years that t
9/ tZL hockey has been so solrilen and 1
successful. All concerned wtll hugs the
farnlllar slght of 'Tlgger’ Lyon's solld
hgure ln defence and 0's contlnual
exhortatlons to greater things, when
most of us are dreaman of the post
rmatch plnl!
