Cricket
The Regiment approached the start of
the Cricket Season wrth a lot of
opttmlsm and enthustasm. Once
again, alas, operattonal commitments
took lhelr toll and we could seldom
field the same team thce.
Hence we made tarrly early extts
from all major competitions. Even HQ
Squadron made little impressron tn the
General's Cup However, the season
was not a total dlsaster as the
Hegtment won more malches than
they lost, nrcluding another ltne wm
over our nerghbours the lA/ZOH.
The Regnnental Crlcket Cup was
retarned by HO Squadron alter a hard
lought match against E Squadron
Both teams bowled Welland B
Souadron were restnoled to 107 for 8
oft then 30 overs, SSM Todd sconng a
ltne 39 n.o HO Squadmn’s tunings
got ofl to a frne start wrth SSgt
Stmpson scortng 34 ably supported by
ROMS Bellamy (16), bur B Squadron
kept plugging away, HO Squadron’s
unlikely hero was Sgt 'Tornmo’
Tomltnson who scored ll vttal runs
and set up the ytctory wtth 4 balls to
spare.
Thls year saw the Introduction of
the Taylor Cup which was klndly
donated by Mr Taylor, the rather of
Sgt Taylor, who IS a keen cricketer.
The Cup l5 tor the bowler who takes
most wickets In a Season
Unfortunately, Sgt Taylor was prpped
to the post by $891 Srmpson. The
Cup was presented by Sgt Taylor In
the absence of hrs lather.
Overall, rt was a moderate Season
but, a Season whtch saw tnterest
grow tn the tumor ranks. A few young
soldters showed promise, notably Tpr
James from C Squadron, who lS
