Canoeing
The bulk of canoetng thts year was
conducted ttl France on a lake by the
vtllage of Monestterv Port - Dteu Here
the squadron groups were greeted by
thetr friendly Instructors wtm gut them

drill and the swtn’: testl When actual
tnstructton began one ol the first
thrngs they were shown was how In
stay In the canoe when upside down
and get tescued wtthout havtng to
Sth. The last way they were shown
how to do thts was by pushtng off the
bottom, or by usntg the church steeple
on the church that was below the
surlace ot the water. Not everyone
managed to fund It but, Sgt McIntyre
nevertheless satd tt was there, and
could always ttnd It to prove tt to
them SSgt ‘Etg Eddte' Edwards, dld
try several ttmes to ttnd the ‘steeple‘
along wtth lots at other thtngs to try
and use Alas, he could not ttnd them,
so always had to rely on someone
betng on hand to help htm. Other
forms of amusement were the Canoe
polo games and tousttng matches
Al the end of the exercise, Capt
Wathen, Sgts Mclrttyre, Garrett and
Cpl Connor went on a trtp to Augsberg
to practtce on the ICE CANAL, a man
» made slalom course. Unfortunately

Course was closed due to lack ml
water, However they dtd manage to
do some paddling Sgt Marlrn Gatrett
even managed to Crack Capt Walhen's
brand new slalom canoe whttst In the
act ol posrng for cameras
Sgt Garrett has now left us and wtll
be mrssed by the Club tn the years to
come, the Regiment betng so close to
the Harz ntountatns, we artttcrpate
spendtng qutte a few weekends on the
Rlver Oker', a very good white water
rtver We hope to enter more slalom
campettttons next season.
