bandntaster, Mr M J Pegram ARCM
to the drtyutg seat The first three
ttrOrttftS of 7983 were not too busy, the
Band ritatnlv completing nfltctal and
duty engagements throughout BAOR,
attd prepartng for the summer season
Tlte summer season started trt May
when the Band appeared tn Celle at a
prorrtotronal evening for Ladies
Perfume and Merts Aftershave by
’SlR', each member betttg gtven a
sample of Aftershave, Rumours that
the Bandmaster and Band Sergeant
Major preferred the perfume are

The rematttder of the month was ftlled
titatttly with community relattons
concerts throughout the area It can
be satd outte hottestly that, the Band
sounded almost as sweet as tt's
members smeltl
June and July, as always, saw us at
full stretch working extensively
throughout BAOR. The engagements
undertaken were of the greatest
yarteiy, Once agattt, for the thtrd
consecutrve year, we gave a concert tn
the Watlrtng Park Hamburg, where the
audtenoe tends to get gradually
smaller as men in wntte coats appear
to remove some of the less destrable
elements from it
The Band took part tn the
Anglo/German/Dutclt week ttt Bergen
and also at the Stadt Festival ttt
Ntenburg. For some strange reason
tltts tsely resembled a very large
Scltutzenfest In total contrast we
followed thts by provtdntg the mustc
for the Drutnltead Church Servtce tor
t ADFA,
Our next engagement was provtdtitg
a marctttng dtsplay and background

ntustc for the Luftwaffe Open Day
The Band was picked upfront Hohne
by heltcopter and flown to Fassberg,
on lartdtttg the helicopter‘s rear rantp
was dropped and tlte Band matched
off playtrtg We tlttitk tt was at thts
point that SgttT/Ml Glen Mattn lost
htS wtg, we would also lrke to potnt
out to the local German poulatrott that
MS natural colour ts not green, The
very next day the Band took part tn
the 125th btrthday celebrations tn Bad
Neuenahr where we were required to
march through the centre of the town
to the Kurpark, then give a 2 hour
concert,
Thts brought us to the end of June
when, once again, we were involved
tn both the Bergen Schutzenlest and
the Mons Moy Celebrattons. Thts
meant much rushtng front one place to
another to be sure of fillth our full
commitments After what cart only be
described as a very hecttc weekend.
we travetled to Celte to parttCtpate ttt
the local Schutzenfesi and then on to
another Schutzenfest at Osterltolz
The latter betng a ltttle dtfferent, as tt
was partly sponsored by the Amertcatt
Forces.
lt was trom here that the Band
travelled to Lubeck to take part in the
litternattottal Trade Fair, and where we
must have had one of our largest and
most muttrnattonat audtences ever;
wtth a few weird punks thrown tn ’tust
for colour'. The engagement at
Lubeck was the last of what had been
a very hard two months
tn August we travelled to Verdett to
take part tn the Anglo/German week
and also the Crtcket Festtval
September, normally a quiet period,
proved to be the exact opoosue as we
travelled first to Krefeld for the
Freedom Parade, then on to Antwerp
he Band in lull glory
for the Ltberatton and Royal Brtttslt
Legtoit Ceren'tontes and ftrtally on to
Berlin for the Tattoo On our return to
the Regiment tn the nttddle of
October, It was stratgltt into
preparations for the thter and
Chrtsttttas programmes, followed by
preparattons for the tmnttnent move to
Wolfenb'uttel,
November saw the Band ltl
Braunschwetg, Hartnover, Bergholz,
Htldeslterm, Verdelt and Celle, as well
as prthdtng must: for vartous offtctal
engagements and Messes throughout

December was, as we all expected
Cold and wet; however a very full
programme awatted the Band With
engagements too numerous to
mention Just before the Chrtstmas
standrdown we packed our
Instruments tn readiness for the move
to Wolfenbuttel. For the next three
months the Band was matttly Involved
tn the movernettt of MFO wtth hall of
us tn Hotttte, while the other half was
to Wolfenhdttel During thts pertrtd we
only took part in two engagements.

The Band took part tn the
Regtmetttal Cross Country and the
lnter Squadron Rugby Compettttotts,
SSgt Barry McGauley came second tr.
tlte over 35 group and was placed 33
overall tn the cross country Members
of the battd tn the HO Squadron
Rugby team were LCpt Clark, Bdsnts
Wnodtr‘t, Morltll GR, Morltll NF atttJ
SSgt McGauley.
