Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 1984
Transcription During training Cpl Connor showed
that he had not tergotten his racriig
techniques (it 3 seasons ago, while
others found it more elusive' It IS often
not apprecrated what a very ditlererit
technique it is lrom ordinary skiing.
Proper Downhill (as opposed to slalorii
and giant slalom) training was difficult
to achieve because at the problem at
tourists e or the mobile slalom gates as
they became more commonly known
Sometimes it would seem that
Bernard was leading us through all the
snowplough classes he could find, JUSI
to test our speed or reactionl The
team tound the training rewarding
because ol the hard work and ellort
that Bernard demanded lt was a pity
that we could not allord more lessons
We had rust begun to master the
technique when we had to leave tor
Axarns,
Axams was the venue for the tst
Armoured Divismn Championships
Overall II was a mixture of some good
racing and untorturiate falls Our
inexperience was certainly revealed in
our inconsistent results which, along
with our lack ol reserves, caused us to
be beaten by less able, though
steadler teams In the end Cpl Connor
and Lt Boughey managed to come
Within the ills! 25 overall and thereby
qualitied tor the Army Championships
as indivrduals Given greater seasonal
continuity in training and the creation
of a squad (from which to select a
learn}, it IS felt that it would not be
difficult to obtain good results at what
is probably the most testing at the
Divismnal meets
The Army Championships were held
at lschgl and provrded much stiller
competition, Nobody expected to
make an impact on the first lilty
however it was a useful experience
and we did well ll) linish in vrrtually
every race
Overall ttie Team gained a lot of
satrstaction trorn panic-paring in llil:
most exhilarating and exciting sport
in the future, it is hoped that mote
talent from the Regiittent Will be
drawn to It, in order to build on what
has been achieved this year
