Riding in a race is the rnost
exhilarating experience for a
horseman Lining up abreast at the
start, your bones are quaktng, trying
to settle your horse when you are
hardly settled yourself. The tape goes
up and it’s all for the firstl The ground

then you’re up and over (not for
all!) You feel yourself settle a bli

your horse’s performance, but before
you know it, your wtnd l5 pressntg

ahead of you is the hntshlng post.
Four horses only in for the final fight,
lt‘s an uphill run but you squeeze
every drop out of yourself and your
horse. Hts neck strains forward and
you pass the post With a muzzle to
spare over your adversaries. It’s the
thrill of a lifetime, though for some it's
back to the weighing room for yet
another cup of black coffee, or, in the
case of one infamous tockey’s
lifestyle — cigars and champagne The

unsuccessful for the Regiment, I am

their excellent guidance
