The W/nn/ng Team
L to Fl Pte Beaumont, Sgt C/ark, Cp/ Ba/dW/n, LCp/ Craft and Pte Sm/th
Earlier in the year Sgt “Tony Muscles ” led a team of super fit
chefs to a Superstars competition held by lRRF in Celle, this
was a Brigade chefs competition to boost morale, I’m sure what
they went through did nothing for their morale. The events
they had arranged for the teams were as follows, rowing, press
ups, sit ups, bench press, an indoor assault course and finishing
with a log race. With absolutely no training whatsoever (unlike
all the other units) the 9/12 Lancers team came home with the
winning trophy, Pte “Gaz” Beaumont won the Best Male trophy
and Sgt “Muscles” Clark won the Runner Up Best Male. So all
in all not a bad days work at the office, I’d like to say it was all
down to the PT that we do, but we hadn’t really started it then,
but well done anyway to all the chefs who took part.
We have had only two chefs depart our Troop this year, first to
go was Pte “Gaz” Beaumont. We all knew his first love was not
cooking but fitness, despite this he was a valuable member of the
team who could always be relied on, he is now living his dream
as a fitness trainer and masseur to an all female dance group on
a cruise ship travelling round the Caribbean. Don’t think he’ll
ever see this but good luck to him all the same. Next to go was
Cpl John Grover, who after deploying with B Sqn to Bosnia,
posted to Osnabruck with l DWR. We have had a few new
arrivals to the troop this year, first to arrive was Cpl Mark
Hillier who arrived from 23 Pioneer Regiment in the UK. Next
to touch down in Hohne was Cpl Danny Kay who arrived from
Northern Ireland on promotion, well done on your promotion,
perhaps you can learn to ride a motorbike now. Also congratu-
lation on his recent marriage to Jasmin. Next into the fold was
Cpl Al Pierce and his family, congratulations on the arrival of
yourbaby daughter Elise, that’s 4 kids now Al, time to buy a TV
set. Next to join the Regiment with his two brothers was Pte
“Sal” Salih who arrived from Paderborn and was straight into
OP TELIC training. We also had LCpl “Emma” Allen, who
arrived from the UK. Last but not least is Pte Tora who is join-
ing us in November this year straight from the factory, welcome
and we hope you enjoy your stay with the Troop.
Congratulations to Pte “Steve” Cassidy and his wife Cara on the
birth of their daughter Crystal.
September saw the start of Op TELIC training for A and C Sqn,
this also included their chefs. A lot of hard work, late nights
and extra time away was completed and a great deal of experi-
ence was gained that will stand them in good stead for future
military course’s that we have to undertake in the RLC. There
have been many, many functions this year, far to many to men-
tion, the biggest event this year was Mons Moy weekend in July
which proved to be a great but very tiring success for the
Catering Department especially as it was the first one for all the
chefs involved, role on next year when we really will be ready for
it, hopefully.
As I write this we are preparing for our busiest time of year, the
dreaded Christmas function time, also slung in the middle of
this very busy time is our LSI, so even more work to do, no rest
for the wicked in the Catering Department, lets hope everything
goes well and we get a good report, should do after all the work
we put in. Whatever happens, the Catering Department of the
Regiment will strive to ensure that where ever, when ever the
Regiment will always get the best service we can provide, after
all our motto is “We Sustain”.
