Arthur and Alfred Hole
Arthur Hole joined the 9th Lancers
in November 1912, and his brother
Alfred in 1915. Arthur recalls a lucky
escape while serving with the Regiment
in France during World War 1; his right
arm was across comrade’s shoulder
while both were reading from the same
piece of paper, their faces only inches
apart. when a shell burst behind, killing
his friend outright while Arthur sustainA
ed only a flesh wound to his right arm.
Both brothers served in the Regi-
mental Band with Arthur purchasing
his discharge in 1920. Alfred continued
with the Regiment; he was in Ireland
during the troubles when he was trum-
peter tn Captain R G Peek. (later killed
in an ambush in that Country.) After-
wards Alfred served with the Regimen!
in Egypt and Palestine, eventually having
in 1926 to attend a Student Bandmaster‘s
course at Kneller Hall; subsequently he

After 19 years in this position he had
17 years of peripatetic teaching at var-
ious schools in Derbyshire and Not-
tinghamshire. He still continues to teach
privately.
Both brothers are alive and well —
Arthur living in Worthing while his
brother Alfred is at Burton-on-Trent.
