THE 9TH/11TH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL Technical Quartermasters Department As the heading to this little piece indicates, herewith the Technical De- partment Notes of the past twelve months. It is not intended to make a detailed report of all the various exer~ cises the Department has taken part in as these will be covered elsewhere in the Journal. However, many miles have been covered during such “holidays" as Quarter Final, Grand Canyon, Rhine Farewell and two Gunnery Camps, resulting in many requests for spares. Ordnance permitting, we have done our best to provide them as quickly as possible. Over the last few years the work load has increased, whilst the staff has re- mained at the same level. All in the Department have responded with en- thusiasm to get the job done. The intro» duction of the Microfiche reader was a great help, however. due to a cut in the Defence Budget, the Computerised Crystal Ball has been delayed until the 1990‘s (Squadrons please note). Many changes in personnel have taken place over the last few months. Captain Keith Jones and SSgt Surgey have departed to the Queen's Own Yeo- manry in Newcastle. Something of a shock for SSgt Surgey, who thought he'd seen the last of Captain Jones for a couple of years. We welcome Captain Underhill (ex MTO) back into the fold as our Technical Quartermaster. The TQMS , W02 Beardmore, re- turned to the Regiment from the Scot, tish outback, having spent two years with the Ayrshire Yeomanry Squadron QOYl He recently made his customary pilgramage to the Baseball ground, home of his (and the RSM‘s) beloved Rams. Sgt Gent was promoted to SSgt and now looks after the Regimental 01098 Accounts, when he's not doing things with Queens and Bishops. If you have tried to contact this Dept during normal working hours and failed, the answer was probably "Pawn to King 4”. Unfortunately we say farewell to Sgt Beak for a while, as he leaves us for the delights of Bovington where he is to instruct in the ways of the Technical Storeman. Much credit of the Department’s performance must go to the ‘engjne room‘. Cpl Annies. who is a first class shot for the Regiment, reckons he‘s something of a Davies at Snooker. Cpl Bradbury, nearly on his way to civvy street, now might land in Canada; he has performed wonders as Tech Clerk. He also reckons to be something of a Davies at Snooker; whether this is Fred or Steve we are not sure! Cpls’ Hicks and Thompson, besides being storemen, have kept our own vehicles up to the mark. They can often be seen with rod and line by any stretch of water big enough to hold a fish. Cpls‘ Gem and Pegg are at present being taught the skills of HGV driving. All have done well over the past year. FinaLly, congratulations to Tprs‘ Price and Evans on their promotion to LCpl and also to LCpl Ratcliffe on his marriage. We wish them well in the future. To our newest member. Tpr Young. we say welcome. Tech on the Autumn exercise |
