Golden Wedding
Nobby Simmonds celebrated the
fiftieth anniversary of his marriage to
Amy in December 1985. In spirit he is
a bigamist, for he has been married to
the Regiment for longer than that. He
joined the 12th Lancers in Egypt as a
bond boy in 1928 but found music was
not his metier, so when he came to
man’s service, transfu'red to Regimens]
duty as a Trooper. Alwnys a fighter,
his favourite sport was boxing and he
became a boy champion in Egypt.
Nobby served in the Regiment thr-
oughout the Second World War, fight-

was noted for his irnpetuous nature
and was without doubt very courageous
During his service h;- earried out many
Amy and Nobby cutting the cake at their Golden Wedding party brave deeds and was awarded the Mili-

Nohby has many good facits to his
character but perhaps the outstanding
characta'istic is his trunendous loyalty.
Joining the Committee of the 12th
Lancers OCA when it was reformed
after the war, he continued to serve on
the 9th/ 12th OCA Committee after
the amalgamation of the two Regiments
and is still an active member of that
Committee.
Someone once ranarked that Nobby’s
bones are like Blackpool rock in that
they have XIIR.L. right through them.
Happy in their family life, may Nobby
and Amy have many more joyous years
together.
