THE 9TH/IZTH ROVAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL Wives Club The Wives Club had mother succes- sful year. We had the opening of the New Community Centre on 4th June, 1985 by Lady Thorn: wife of Major General David Thome KBE. The wives now use the centre for their social functions and coffee morn- ings. There is always a good turnout for Bingo on Monday evenings and Friday mornings. We had a coektail drinks demon- stration given by Messrs Bailey and Hercock. (There were a few headaches next morningl). Very popular is the Car Rally, won by Mrs Stern & Co, tnus keeping the trophy for yet another year. In June we had the yearly barbecue plus Man Of The Year competition won by Lt Wilson 54 Our Tug of War Team at the Mons Moy weekend Then came Mons/Moy. the wives ran soakeandteatent;thisseemed popular with the Old Comrades. In November Mrs Purves took ten wives to Berlin for the weekend: a good time was had by all. In December we said goodbye to Mrs Whiteth who is now in thne. Mrs Todd then took over running the Club, alter Brunei for the last 18 months, she was “thrown in at the deep end" with the Christmas festivities. The wives Christmas Dimer on the 16th Dwember was well attended. The childrens’ part- ies were s great success, these were organised by the wives of A and D Squadrons. In March some lovely creations were made for the Easter Bonnet Parade. Prizes went to Mrs Short and Mrs Thompson, A Mini Market was held on 19th March with proceeds going to the Matthew Learoyed Appeal. The sum raised amounted to DM 110.00. The Craft Shop is doing very well, ‘ It is run by Mrs Pegram, who is knitting like mad for herself and customers; all the profits from this venture goes to i the Wives Club Fund. What is an Army Wile? . , .An army wife is mostly girl. Although there are times when her hus- band is away and she is staking the boiler, she begins to suspect she is also a boy. She usually comes in three sizes — petite, plump and pregnant. During the early years of her marriage it is often hard to determine which is her normal one. |
