Regimental Football
'I'Ie Team — Morton. Qofts. Woods, Thompson, Pilclter. Keanie. Francis,
Kerrigan. Barnett. Bailey, Bumbam, Nice.
The 1985~86 season started looking
good with two wins against A Sqn,
then the LAD in friendly build up
games. Hopes were high and the team
was enthusiastic.
In the 7/22 Bde League the opening
games against the R H finished in a 4-2
defeat. Exercise commitment then took
the Regiment away for a month and on
return i ADSR narrowly beat us 2-] in
a game where nothing would go in the
net. A l Arrnd divi cup game against
the R6] was an exciting affair. the
Regiment losing by the odd goal in 7
but. putting up a very creditable per-
formance. The rest of the season was
literally taken out by 2 Gunnery camps
and a very severe winter.
The highlight of the season was the
Cavalry Cup against Scots D.G.; lost
58
narrowly by 2—0 in a very close fought
game.
The standard of football was good
and players enthusiastic which reflected
in a the presentation of full colours to
Cpl Woods, Crofts. Bailey and Francis.
The rest of the team deserve mention
for the training and support given to
W02 Purves and SSgt Thompson in
the running of the team. They are:-
Cpls Pilcher, Kerr. Hayden, LCpl
Nice, Kerrigan, Tprs Barnett (now in
Canada) Burnharn. Keonie, Thompson,
Morton. Withers and Derbyshire.
Also thanks to all who gave their
support in various ways.
We look forward to the coming sea-
son and wish to invite any one interested
to come along and try their hand with
us.
Basketball
The 1985/86 season was not a great
success for the Regiment. However
with the introduction to the team of
young blood, the future looks exceed-
ingly rosy.
The season started with the normal
weekly strenuous training sesssions in
the gym followed by friendly run outs
against local opposition. These sessions
ensured the team got it’s act together in
readiness for 9/ 12L assault on i Div
Championships.
The Championship commenced in
November with the Regiment easily
beating lZ Sigs to gain access to the
second round against one of the better
organised sides within the div. 40 D
Regt. RA.
Unfortunately the game was sched-
uled for February which, was right in
the middle of Regimental training sea-
son. we lost valuable talent in Sgt Mc
Intyre and Sgt Williams. Due to conflic-
ting comrnitments. The game was never-
theless enjoyable. We lost 42-50, Cpl
Hayden ran out top scorer with 25 pts
and Cpl Pilcher showed his worth by
stalwart defensive work. We were beat-
en by a better side.
The better players were rewarded by
selections for the RAC squad for the
inter corps championship. The follow-
ing players represented the Regiment:
Sgt Davis. Cpl Hayden, Cpl Tyler and
Cpl Pileher.
