Transcription Medial facilities are good. The camp
is served by civilian doctors from Thu-
ted who hold a daily surgery for both
Ioldiers and dependents. Prescriptions
Ire available through the dispensary in
the Medical Centre, and there is an
ante and post natal service. More com-
plicated treatment or emergencies are
handled in local hospitals. Soldiers
requiring specialist treatment may be
teen ll QEMH Woolwieh or at a local
hospital, whichever is the most conven-
ient at the time. There is a visiting
RADC dentist for military personnel.
Dependents have to use a civilian den-
tist in Saffron Walden. The Medical
Centre has a military ambulance and
iver at its disposal for both emergen-
‘es and routine conveyance of soldiers
o/from hospital.
Postal facilities are rural. “Postman
It" makes two deliveries and one col-
tion each day. The nearest sub-Post
ffice is just under a mile away and is
generally used for collection of Family
Allowance. The camp Post Office is
nly a sorting and distribution centre

the Wimbish Parish Church is used by
the Carver Barracks Regiment. Rever-
end Reed takes a great and enthusiastic
interest in his military flock and readily
makes himself available to soldiers and
their dependents. Denominations other
than Church of England are served in
Saffron Walden.
Locals say that Carver Barracks has
its own set of weather conditions. Cer-
tainly it is prone to log, and winds can
be quite fierce across the open airfield.
although the young tree plantations
will, one day, reduce these problems.
The main comment on the weather is
that it's nice in summer. Winters are
harsh and though never completely cut
off, passage on the country roads can
be a problem. Spring may be regarded
as wet and windy and Autumn as windy
and wet.
I hope this has given you a flavour
of the Barracks, the job, and what life
will be like. in the meantime enjoy
what remains of Wolfenbuttel.
