THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL Headquarters Squadron Our year began with the acquisition of a new Squadron Sergeant Major. SSM Beaumont name to take over from SSM Hayter who went to join the BATUS Team in Canada. Troop Train- ing took place in Baden Wurtenhurg in the Southern part of Germany; although a long way from Wolienhuttel it was nioe to train in new surroundings and from the Echelon point of View. was a great success. A great deal of credit for the smooth running of the Regiment during this period must go to the QM and QMIT) for supplying the necessary bits and pieces to keep us going, also to the MT drivers who hauled the POL over great distances. During Tp Trg we had attached to us Capt A Fatah of the Egyptian Army; when the first heavy snow fell he could be seen wandering about with his camera taking photo- graphs for the folks back home. Immediately after Tp Trg we had a Sqn Site Guard which took most of us to Sennelager for just over a week. During the summer W02 Banks organised sev- eral driving courses which were all attended. enabling us to get at good number of soldiers their driving licence; yet we still appear to be short of drivers. The Regimental Athletics Meeting was not a great sucoess for us, however, the Sqn did go on to win the Cross Country Meeting, This more than made up i or a third place in the Athletics. In July Capt J Curl took over as Paymaster vice Capt )1 Morris who was posted to Worthy Down. Sgt Reynolds RAMC joined us to look after the Med- ical Centre, In August we held an enjoy- able Sqn Barbecue and Disco. A Border Patrol in early September was followed by the Autumn exercises Grand Canyon and Quarter Final. These were fairly hard exercises for the Echelon, we moved the Sqn fourteen times in thir- teen days. At the end of the exercise we were not quite clear where we had been, or, where we had started from. At the end of the year WOI(RSM) Whitehead handed over to W01 (RSM) Todd and left us to become the Garrison Sergeant Major in Hohne, a place he knows well, Early December saw us at the Annual Gunnery Camp at Hohne ranges We found to our great delight that the wea- ther was not so cold as we had expected and the Regiment enjoyed a good shoott Immediately after Gunnery Camp the experts started planning for the Sqn Christmas Party which seems to get big- ger and better every year. In January Capt A K Jones handed over as Tech- |
