Year 1986
Transcription THE 9THr’lZTH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL
Quartermaster’s Department
Since our last notes there have been
numerous changes in the Staff. W02
BELLAMY has departed to take over
the appointment of RQMS Junior
Leaders Regiment at Bovington, He is
already. so we are told, heavily into free
fall parachuting, mountain walking and
hang gliding. It appears that being sur-
rounded hy all those Juniors have given
him a second lease of life. Cpl MOTUM
has left to take up civilian employmenti
He is rather keen to become a BIA so
that he can reverse the situation so be
coming the person who says “No fur»
niture is available for your exchanges!"
W02 FERGUS has now taken over as
ROMS. No sooner was he in the chair
than he was thrown into the deep end
with Gunnery Camp. Nothing like having
to swim from the start. Sgt HUGHES
has taken over as Regtl Bk NCO from
Cpl MOTUM while Cpl BAGGS is in
the process of taking over as clothing
NCO from Cpl MUIR. the latter due to
depart for civilian life later this year.
our line up now reads:
QM — Major WARLOW
RQMS — W02 FERGUS
Barrack NCO — Sgt HUGHES
Ammo — LCpl RICHARDSON
Clothing — Cpl MUIR/Cpl BAGGS
Accm — LCpl BENNETT
MFO — LCpl WYLIE
Carpenter — Tpr GREEN
Tpr GREEN underwent a three
month carpenter course with the Royal
Engineers so knows how to use a ham-
mer and saw. Cpl RICHARDSON
(carpenter retired) is watching him like
a hawk to ensure that none of his tools
are used.
This year has seen the Department
becoming an Ordnance Depot in the
field. moving to Bavaria for Regimental
Troop training with all the Regiment's
compo for a month. buying in fresh
rations and providing fresh bread rolls
daily.
February saw the Regiment taking
part in Exercise HARD FIST, which
was a Corps outloading exercise for
ammunition, Because of peacetime res-
tn'ctions we had to outload all our
ammunition to the Cretnlingen Training
area and build an ammunition com-
pound. The weather conditions forecd
the RQMS and Sgt HUGHES to make
use of a snow plough to clear the area
and form roadways for the CVRm.
Whilst the CVR(T) were ‘bombing up’
the OM together with SQMSs departed
for the Forward Ammunition Storage
Site to collect the Regiment‘s missiles.
The exercise was. as far as the Regiment
was concerned, a great success with the
outloading and inloading completed
before last lightl
March was the month when we re-
turned to the Hohne ranges for annual
firing. After Exercise HARD FIST the
‘bombing up’ and movement of am-
munition was as easy as getting extra
duties from the RSM.
The return of the QM from the Wim-
bish Reece had both Mr FEROUS and
Cpl RICHARDSON dlneing a jig of
delight when they learned that we hold
no mob ammo there.
Allin all. the last year has been one
of considerable effort and no little
achievement. With our impending move
there is still a lot of hard work ahead.
