ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY ROYAL TOURNAMENT 1983 . JUMPING FOR THE KING'S CUP The Duke of Connaught was present at the Royal Tournament yesterday after noon and was accompanied by Princess Helena Victoria and Princess Marie Louise . He inspected the guard of honour of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards in the arena . A main feature of the Tournament this week end is the jumping over the course for the King's Cup . This competition has drawn the best horse men in the Services . The preliminary pools for the cup will be completed to - day at 2.30 , and the final will be jumped at the afternoon per formance to - morrow at 2.30 p.m. Although there is no International Horse Show this year the same class of jumpers will be seen at the Royal Tournament to - day and to - morrow . The principal prize and blue riband for this year's officers ' jumping is his Majesty's trophy . In the Prince of Wales's Cup com pleted earlier in the week the jumping was extra ordinarily good , some clean runs being made . and this has increased the interest in the contest for the King's Cup . UNITED EAST LOTHIAN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY 1933 ANNUAL SHOW AT HADDINGTON GOOD DISPLAY OF STOCK THE " POPULAR ELEMENT " On this occasion the " ' popular element " was supplied by a detachment of the 9th Lan , cers from Redford Barracks , Edinburgh . Their programme included a musical ride , in which both horses and men showed almost uncanny cleverness in the various evolutions .. They arrived in the arena in full dress with pennants flying , and their exhibition delighted the large attendance . Other events included a V.C. race , mounted tug - of - war and musical chairs . During the afternoon musio was rendered by the 9th Lancers ' band . 9th LANCERS 1935 .
