BEARERS OF AN HEROIC NAME .
The memorial window unveiled at Beaconsfield Church on Saturday to the memory of Captain Francis Grenfell , V.C. , 9th Lancers , and his twin brother , Captain Riversdale Grenfell , attached 9th Lancers . Inset : Field Marshal Lord Grenfell , V.C. , who was at the ceremony .
Grenfell Memoriai .
A new memorial window , unveiled in Beaconsfield Parish Church to the mentory of two young Grenfells , will fittingly keep green a glorious memory . The Hon . Francis ( the first officer V.C. of the war ) and his twin - brother , Rivers dale Grenfell , belonged to that undying splendour of the early struggle that made , ultimate victory possible , The same may be said of their two kinsmen , the Hon . Julian and his brother " Billy , " for they also made the great sacrifice . All four were enthusiastic sportsnien and fine bookmen , especially Julian , who wrote that unforgettable poem " Into Battle , " which Riversdale prophesied would live for ever in English letters .

Close by , peaceful , undisturbed , is a big graveyard of our dead . Happily the shells have spared it Here are the graves of the Grenfell brothers - one a V.C. , both heroes . Here are the last resting - places of many brave men from many a regiment .
