BORDER HUNTS
POINT - TO - POINT RACES
FOUR BUCCLEUCH WINNERS
THE Border Hunts Point - to - Point races were carried through yesterday under delightful weather conditions at Todhillrig , near Coldstream . Start ing and finishing on Oxenrig Farm , the circular course , extending to three and a half miles and traversing the farms of Todhillrig and Coldstream Mains , afforded an excellent test . Fields on the whole were good , and from the eminence known as Fair Rig a large attendance of hunting and racing enthusiasts witnessed some interesting sport .
In the light - weight race Mr R. Scott Anton's Euonym , which had been a winner at the Lauder dale meeting , was joint favourite with Colonel A. C. Baillie's Red Sea . Euonym showed up well during the early part of the journey , but Red Sea had something in hand , and once taking the lead never lost it . This proved to be the first of four winning representatives of the Buccleuch Hunt .
Damsel IV . , which had come a cropper early in the cage , was badly injured , and had * πορτοΊ ' erduilO 48 Mous asxo ] [ nuotnuoqu ] 94 գոլ կես ճռ puo uo do ա os օզդ Տսօ [ [ ]

on
The 3rd Hussars , who have already become an acquisition to local football , met the 9th Lancers this afternoon the Garrison ground There was a splendid attendance . 3rd Hussars . - Dartnell ; Howard and Donnachie , Gorman and Cottle ; Cameron , Waltho , Charlton and
Smith ; Daley , Mullis , 9th Lancers . - Kentall ; Cover and Roughley ; Miles , King and Crook ; Leach , Madden , Buckley , Halfnight and McLawling . Referee . - R.S.M . R. Coleman .
The Lancers started the game towards Fulford and almost straightaway forced a corner which was placed behind . From the goal kick the Hussars got away and Kentall was called upon to make two quick clearances . The ball passed out to Mullis who passed it right across for Daley to head in after 3 minutes .
Offside on the part of Madden spoiled a good movement as Halfnight was about to shoot and just after McLawling shot right cross the goal , but no one was up to receive and the ball passed behind .
After 15 minutes Halfnight equalised with
stinging shot that gave Dartnell no chance . Play was exceptionally fast and keen and an in favour of the Lancers who forced two ruitless corners and then went ahead through Madden after 24 minutes ' play . Half - time : 9th Lancers ...

corner .
There were about 600 present . The Lancers were the first to be dangerous on the resumption , but Smith cleared and Daley went away to force another futile Smith made a mistake which enabled Leach to get away on his own , but his final shot lacked sting , and Dartnell kicked clear . A long shot from near the halfway line by Miles almost beat Dartnell , the ball bourcing awkwardly . Just after Dartnell turned a stinging shot from Halfnight over the bar . The corner kick was cleared by Howard .
196
At the other end Cameron had hard lines when he lifted the ball over the bar after Kentall had partly cleared a shot from Charlton .
Dartnell made a splendid save when Half night broke away . Roughley received a knee injury but was able to resume after treatment .. The Hussars missed another opportunity of equalising when Kentall fumbled a shot from Charlton and Darley placed the ball across the goal mouth , but no other forward , was up to receive .
A shot from Buckley hit the crossbar with Dartnell out of goal , and the rebound was cleared by Cottle .
the
and
A goal seemed certain when the ball hung for some minutes in front of the Lancers ' goal , but Kentall brought off three great clearances . In the last five minutes Hussars tried hard for the equaliser , forced three fruitless corners . From the last the ball seemed to pass into the net , but the Result : referee negatived the request . 9th LANCERS 3rd - HUSSARS
