The Final . - Elliot and Wallace . After breakfast we etarted off . A boar was marked down some distance off , but on the way we heard of one , and it was decided to run him . The country looked sporting and
the right place for the heat . The boar was turned out

Wallace had got through a gap and on to the pig by cutting a corner . Before he could speeches and hearty cheers given for them all . The Salmon Oup is a challenge cup founded in get up to the pig , the Colonel came along again memory of Captain Salmon . It is a beautiful model going a tremendous pace , passed Wallace in a lane made his effort to epear , overshot the pig , of a silver boar . A cup , value about Rs . 250 , is given and by sportsmen outside Guzerat and Kathiawar to the which jinked him up into a field . Wallace was winner of the Challenge Cnp . just able to get his horse round and turn up where the pig went , and the Colonel could'nt get through at The pig was about done by this time , and Wallace got up to him and speared , thus winning the Guzerat Cup .

GUZERAT CUP - 1895 .
GUZERAT CUP 1ST CHANCES .
1st Heat . - Elliot , Wallace , Goring - Jones , and Gray . 2nd Heat . - Fellowes , Littleton , West , and Wad dington .
3rd Heat . - Proctor Sims , White , and Ross .
1st Heat . - Colonel Elliot led all the way . Over shot the pig just as he turned up a lane , when Wallace , who was next the Colonel , got first into the lane and speared .
2nd Heat . - A very fine Sounder was turned out , but , owing to some confusion about the one to be ridden , the result was " no heat . "
Afterwards they
Littleton and
got away after a very good boar . West raced him and the latter's horse got out of hand and landed him sideways into a high cactus hedge , the result being considerable thorny damage to the 5th Lancer man's head , breeches , and horse . Little ton then got on to the boar , with Waddington in close attendance . After a good race the latter speared .
3rd Heat . - Had a long stern chase over a hill after a boar . All three had a chance , and eventually Ross speared .
2ND CHANCES ,
let Heat . - West , Littleton , Gray , and Waddington .
2nd Heat . - Wallace , Elliot , and Goring - Jones .
3rd Heat . - Proctor Sims , White , and Ross .
lat Heat . - Started after a small one , and the run
was a poor one , West spearing after a very short turn . Littleton got left at the post through not understanding it was a start .
2nd Heat . - After a long stern chase , got started , Elliot cutting out the work . He speared in a lane , but had to drop his spear to prevent its being broken , Thought he could not show blood and went on again . Wallace missed spearing and got stuck up in a fence , where Elliot passed him and shortly after speared . 3rd Heat . - A splendid Sounder broke out of a babul cover , and the umpire put them on to the largest of three good boar . Ross did most of the work , with Proctor Sims well up . The boar jinked and let in White , whose horse knocked the boar head over heels and prevented him from spearing . Ross then This was a fine got another chance and speared . plucky boar and gave the umpire and spectators a lot of work to polish off .

Semi - Final First Chances . - Wallace , Waddington , and Ross . Had one or two rings after a boar hugged the village and we had to change ground to Palanpur before the heat got off . Ross had the worst of the start , but got up all right , and there seems no doubt that he speared . He didn't think he could show blood and so went on . Waddington had also been pressing the boar closely , and he was pretty well ridden to a stand - still , when Wallace came up and speared . Roes did not claim his spear , and so there was no question . This was a great piece of luck for Wallace and put him into the final .
Semi - Final Second Chances . - West , Elliot , and Ross . Got away after the best boar we saw and a great race ensued . West got the turn through a fence and had it to himeslf for some distance when the Colonel caught . him up just as they got into a lane . His beautiful little waler jumped the fence and turned almost in the air , going at full speed and shortly after the Colonel speared .
Six or seven spears were broken before this
He stuck to the lane fighting his
way along .
Several horses jumped clear over him
in the narrow part of the lane where he turned at bay and eventually one old sportsman , who had dis mounted , was heard shouting for help , as in the melée his shoulder had slipped out and he could'nt quite hold the boar off with his left arm . Mr. Waddington jumped in on foot and came to the rescue , no damage being done . This was the most exciting bit of sport we had ,
boar was killed .

SALMON CUP .
1st Heat . - Wallace , Waddington , and West . 2nd Heat . - Elliot , Ashby , and Grey . 3rd Heat . - Knox , Proctor Sims and Brown . 4th Heat . - Goring - Jones , Ross and Littleton . 1st Heat - West scratched , and so it was a match between Waddington and Wallace . The former led all the way and speared easily . 2nd Heat . - Elliot and Gray had a good race together , the latter's peny Aladdin having the best of it , and Gray speared .
3rd Heat . - Major Brown had lost his way during one of the rune , and so Knox and Proctor - Sims had to run it off together . After a very long stern chase the umpire put them on to a pig , which took them another couple of miles before Knox got up and speared .
4th Heat . - Got on to a very good boar . Ross broke his stirrup leather , and shortly afterwards Goring Jones , who was cutting out the work , broke both his , but he went on for some distance and was within an ace of getting the spear when Littleton came up and robbed him of it . This boar took a lot of killing , and wonly just got him before he got to cover . Semi - Finals , 1st Heat . - Knox , Littleton , and Brown ( the latter having been allowed to come in by the Com mittee ) . The pig got away over some high fences and was followed by the umpire and Littleton , but they had to wait for the other two . Eventually they came up in a lane and got started . Littleton overshot the pig , which turned away at right angles . This gave Knox a long lead , but he missed the spear and let in Littleton again , who also missed , on the jink , after which Knox got him
2nd Heat . - Grey and Waddington . A good boar was lying handy after breakfast , and the heat got away at once . Gray had the best of it all through and speared , Final . - Gray and Knox . They were started late in the evening after a very speedy pig , which the umpire nursed till he got clear of the crops and away in the open . A very good race ensued . Knox at one time got a little advantage , but Gray was quickly up again and , after a good set to , he speared and thus the Salmon Cup . a most popular one . Gray bad run up well on previous occasions and everyone was delighted that he had carried off the trophy this time , espe cially after the plucky way in which he came to the meet , although not quite recovered from his recent very hard knock the head at the Jackal Club Races in Bombay .

Tae roint - to - Point races took place nes over the same course as last year . A new za was instituted for all arabs and country - breds the . had been ridden in the heats or by the umpires . The cup was started and given by two old sportsmen who were present and was called the " Umpire Cup . The race filled well and , we hope , will become an annual institution as it gives a chance to outsiders who often take up the duties of umpire . The first race was the annual " Tully Point - to - Point " Cap , valne Re , 250 , got up in memory of Dr. Tally , who was so fond of the sport in Guzerat . Mr. Knox , R.A. , won on his waler Plunger , Captain Ross being second , on Magnum . It was a good race up till near the finish . Mr. Wallace came over at the last fence , but no damage was done . In the Umpire Cup " Mr. Littleton led all the way on his C. B. Duke , but was caught near the post by Captain Ross on Colonel Elliot's Arab Ophir . The Arab just lasted out the 0. B. and won by a neck after a capital race . Proctor Sims fell at the last fence into the straight , which was rather an awkwrda one , but was not hurt .
The Pony Cup , value Rs . 200 , given by the fund was over the same course as the other two and was & fast - run race . Mr. Waddington on Mr. Littleton's Moonstone was leading , when about half a mile from home he jumped a fence into a blind hole , Captain Ashby on Mr. Wallace's Bay Rum doing the same , Both ponies fell , but no damage was done , and Mr. Waddington was quickly up again , but could not quite catch Captain Ross , who won on Bismillah , with something in hand .
