son and Lory close behind . thus won the " Salmon Cup " on a waler mare " Carmen . "
While at lunch " khubber " was brought in and we went off hoping for luck and this time the fates were kind . Milbanke had two chances in hand for the Gujerat Cup and it looked as if he was going to repeat his victory of 1906 , and that both cups would go to
Rawal Pindi . Rudkin , Milbanke and Donald Graham got away after a fast little turned out of the crops . Donald Graham had the best of it till he got to the river bed , when Milbanke shot down in front of him and got on to the pig . However , Graham , on the boar , handy " Spartan " followed the pig splendidly through jungle and speared . was soon up again and
difficult
This left him in the
final with Milbanke . and they ran it off at once on the same two horses . They had a good race . Milbanke goti A pig was marked down the pig away on a jink from Graham and had the legs of " Spartan . " They got into a lane and Milbanke overrode the pig , which stopped in a bush , at the side . The pig started out , as Graham came up , and he speared .
It was a very popular win as no one in Bombay has been more consistent in support ing pigsticking of late years than Donald Graham ,
runner - up for
and he has been the the Cup on " Spartan " before . We all feel that the Cup has gone to a real good sportsman and a first class man after a pig . Also that
he won from Milbanke , who is one of the
was
best pigstickers in India .
It
had been found necessary to cancel the existing rules regarding weights , and a reso lution was carried unanimously , after dinner on 2nd instant , to the following effect : In the " Tally Hunt Cup " and " Pony Cup " ( point - to - points ) owners over 12 stone . In C. B. point - to - point catch weights over Substitute up cabah 10st . 7lbs . riders 12st . 7lbs . weights , St. John Graham had noticed , when riding

out to Sathal , in the morning what he thought would make a good course and it was decided to run the races off over this course on the way home .
There was a large " Bear " tree , standing out by itself , across what looked sporting country viewed from the high bund of a tank and about 1 miles distant . The course was round the tree and back , the winning flags being held aloft from the backs of 2 camels . The following went for the Tally Hunt Cup :
Col. Forbes ......... " Khala " ... Owner ( Winner ) St. John Graham's " Ambrosine ... Owner .
Rajah of Orcha's .. Vladimir ... Capt . Rudkin . Symona ' ....... King fisher ...... Owner . Wodehoure's ... Mastedon ......... Owner . Graham was first round the tree , followed by " King - fisher " and " Khala . " Vladimir fell in a sunk lane , his rider was quickly up again , but had the bad luck to get his reins crossed , when putting them over the horses ' neck , and so they delayed him further . " King fisher , " " Ambrosine " and " Khala " were about level on the homeward journey , when the first named jumped into a lane and lost a lot of ground before his rider could find a way out . This left the race to the other two and " Khala " just managed to outstay " Ambro sine , " which was second . " King - fisher " was coming along strong at the finish , but couldn't make up all the ground he lost in the lane .
The ponies then went out .

Dick Tarpin " ... Owner . Symons ' ... " Blue Rock " .. Capt . Rudkin . Lory's ... " Sandow " ..... Owner . Forbes ....... " Substitute " ... Owner ( Winner . ) " Jungli , " when going strong , jumped a big thorn fence , but unluckily a lot of cut wood was on the other side and he came down and got away , his rider hurting his face and neck , but nothing serious , it is hoped , although giving him an uncomfortable time of it , temporarily . " Dick Turpin " also fell over a fence . " Substitute " was coming along com fortably with " Sandow " in attendance , but they got misled by a beater getting up a tree with a flag some distance . to the right of the winning flags and so they mistook the course and before they realised the mistake . " Rudkin " . who had come a straight course home , landed " Blue Rock " first past the post . had , however , lost his saddle bags , which were necessary to make up the weight to 12st . 7lbs . and so couldn't draw the weight and Forbes ' " Substitute , " who was second , became the win ner , the gallant Colonel thus winning both
He
races .
The C. B. race fell through , owing to there being only 4 entries . This finished up the
meet .
Before closing my notes , I would like to say how much we all felt indebted to Capt . Hutchison for all the trouble he took to bring the meeting to such a successful issue . He took up the Hon . Secretary's duties late in the day and had not any previous experience as a guide , so it was all the more credit to him for doing so well . Crops and jungle were
heavier than usual , owing to its being early in the season and this made it difficult to get heats off successfully on many occasions .
I think also that many of us felt that there was too much inclination to rush through the proceedings and get away . We had only four
days hunting and yet , on more than one occa sion , questions came up as to whether we
could finish off the sond chances of the Gujerat Cup . In future , I think , it would be well to notify that the meet will exten to a week and that competitors must m
to stay .
