Capt . The semi - finals for the Guzerat Cup 1st chances were drawn and resulted as follows : Capt . Darley , Sir John Milbanke ( spear ) , and Ritchie ( scratched ) ; and Capt . Davie , R. C. Brown , and Owen Symons ( spear ) . The following were for the semi - finals for the Guzerat Cup 2nd chances : Capt . Darley ( spear ) , R. C. Brown , and Sir John Milbanke ; and Norton ( spear ) , Colonel Forbes , and Medlicott . FINALS . Finals were then run off between Sir John Milbanke ( spear ) and Owen Symons , and Norton ( spear ) and Capt . Darley . This left in Milbanke and Norton for the final , which was won by Mil who thus won " Cockchafer , " banke . on the Gujarat Cup . SALMON CUP . Heats for the Salmon Cup were drawn and re sulted as follows : Heat 1 - Owen Symons , Barr , Moore , and Dar ley ( spear ) . Heat 2 - Milbanke ( spear ) , Bruce , and Prince Futteh Singh Rao . Heat 3 - Forbes , Norton ( spear ) , and Medlicott . Heat 4 - Amwar Ali ( spear ) , Davie , Brown . The four winners ran off the final in one heat , those in the final being Darley , Milbanke , Nor ton , and Amwar Ali . The result was a win for Darley , who thus won the Salmon Cup . The first two days we hunted west and south of Dholka . Pig were fairly plentiful , but there was some little anxiety about getting off the second chances of the Guzerat Cup in good time . On Sunday we went to Ingoli , on the Sabarmat :, between Seje and Garnool , and had a capital day's sport , killing one splerdid boar , 324in . He kept up a running fight for over an hour and was eventually finished off , on foot , by the veteran of the hunt and Mr. Barr . Nine heats were got off on this day . On Monday we went to a village between Ingoli and Seje , called Wautz , and found some very fine boar . The last one ( Salmon Cup final ) charged right out into the middle of the heat , which was waiting by the jungle side for him to break . Luckily he didn't cut any of the horses . He gave a most sporting run and after Capt . Darley had got the spear took a lot of polishing off . We found a number of really fine boar and it is evident that pig nave come back to Guzerat again . It is believed they have migrated south from Jodpore and other places owing to famine there . The Tally Hunt Cup was run off near camp , Tuesday morning , the course was picked out by Mr. Macnamara and was a very good , although somewhat difficult , one for riders to make out , when galloping . This , however , is unavoidable in such a heavily treed country . The runners were as follows : Tally Hunt Cup , for Horses . - Milbanke's Cock chafer ; Darley's Neptune ; J. L. Symons ' King fisher ; Asquith's Jhansi ; Roberts ' Sir Brian . All kept pretty well together till nearing home , when J. L. Symons and Darley went too much to left and got mixed up among big - hedges thus leaving Milbanke an easy winner , with Asquith second . the PONY CUP . Futteh The runners for the pony cup were as follows : Pony Point to Point . - Mediicott's Result ( fell ) ; Amwar Ali's Cafe au Lait ; Brown's Buibul ; S.ng Rao's Hansraj ( fell ) ; Mi.banke's Indore ( fel ) ; Owen Symons ' Dudds ; Norton's Kinky ; Bruce King Tom . In the run home Medlicott and Norton were lead ing and the latter looked like winning when these deflected from their two collided and so got This resulted in Owen course . Medlicott fell . Symons coming up on " Dudds " and winning , Amwar Ali being second . The speakers after dinner on Monday night paid full tribute to Captain Darley for all the great trouble taken by him during the last two or three months , in connection with the meet . Nobody could have worked harder to make it a success . than he did . was Also Mr. Doderet's ( the Collector's ) name received with much enthusiasm , he having done all in his power to help along the arrangements . Mr. Macnamara and Mr. Hume and the other members of the Committee were also thanked for the help they had given . Captain Darley stated that if it had not been for the great help given by the Dis trict Officers , he could never have worked the meet successfully . Baroda was well represented by Prince Futteh Sing Rao and his party , all of whom entered thoroughly into the sport . The Prince promised his best support for the Cup next year and if pig should get scarce , said he would be glad to see us at Baroda , if pig should be more plentiful there . Let us all hope we may meet again next year near here and find as good a show of pig as we have just done . I have omitted to mention that , to the regret of every one , Ritchie had to scratch , owing to fever . 8 |
