POLO THE OPEN CUP . The Open Cup ( a challenge cup open to all teams ; six chukkers ) only attracted an entry of three teams . The first match , between the 10th Hussars and the Vagrants , resulted in a win for the former by seven goals to two . It was a good match , with the Hussars slightly the better side , but in chukkers two , three , and five the Vagrants team quite held their own . Among the losers , Col. Ainsworth and №.r Cooke were prominent , while Major Richardson and Mr. Archer - Shee were the best of the win ning team . 00 The final , betwen the 12th Lancers and the 10th Hussars , was looked upon as a certain and easy victory for the Lancers , who , on hand icap , exactly doubled their opponents . As it turned out , the game was one of the closest and most interesting played at Gezira this season . The 10th Hussars went all out from the very start of the game , and their marking and hust ling tactics were so successful that at the end of the fifth chukker the score was only one to nothing in their opponents ' favour . In the final chukker the 12th Lancers added a goal from a penalty hit and then scored again just before the close of play and so ran out victors by 3 goals to nil . It was an excellent match , very hardly con tested , and the losers deserve every praise for the very fine effort they made . The 12th Lancers rather allowed themselves to be hustled and , with the exception of Col. Charrington , they were not playing up to their form . The two teams were composed as follows : 12th Lancers . - Mr . G. Kidston , 1 : Major Hornsby , 2 ; Mr. F. Arkwright , 3 ; Col. Char rington , back ; 10th Hussars . - Capt . Harvey , 1 ; Major Ri chardson , 2 ; Mr. Dawnay , 3 ; Mr. Archer - Shea , back . THE KING'S CUP . The King's Cup ( presented by H.M. King Fuad to commemorate the visit of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales on June 10 , 1922 ) is a tournament to be played for by the winners of the Open Cup and a team selected by the Polo Committee ; six chukkers . The team selected t meet the 12th Lancers , the winners of the Open Cup , was not a strong one , but it was the best that could be got together . The game itself was an uninteresting one after the final of the Open Cup . The 12th Lancers were taking no chances and from the start they took the initiative and went ahead against a team that were not too well mounted and had never played together be fore . The score - 15 goals to 2 - speaks for itself and is in no way disparaging to the losers . The 12th Lancers relied on the same team that won the Open Cup , while the team representing the Gezira Sporting Club was composed of : Capt . Radford , R.A. , 1 ; Capt . Peppé , R.H.A. , 2 : Mr. Dawnay , 10th Hussars , 3 ; Capt . Chrystall , back . n 144 S TAKING A SEAT INSTEAD OF A JUMP : TWO VIEWS OF CAPT .
