POLO HALIM CUP The The second was a much better game . veteran " Vagrants " ( who were conceding two and a half goals to their rivals ) " vagranted " to such good purpose during the first half of the game that they looked like overhauling the youthful Lancers . The better stamina of the Youthful Ones , however , saw them through and they eventually ran out winners by six and half goals to three , after a good even game . The second and third day of the Alexandria Sporting Club tournament provided some uneven play and varying form . On June 25 , Alexandria , jneeting the XIIth Lancers , could make no head way , although better together than previously , and the Lancers ran out easy winners by 8 goals to 1 1/2 , Alexandria receiving half a goal . The play was better than the score suggest produc ing a good galloping game . The last match , virtually the final , between the Abyssinians and the XIIth Lancers , saw the former run out winners by 3 goals to one , the handicaps being level . The game was even and produced some good galloping , but the winners were a better balanced side . The XIIth Lan cers did not succeed in establishing a lead which would have been of material and moral advant age to them and , after a while , their lack of balance , told against them - the cooler side win ning , Had the losers been able to convert chances , in the first chukker , which they were capable of doing , the result might have been different . Ascot 1930 . 首 4 500 ALDERSHOT SHOW RECORD SUCCESS OF A HORSE ( FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT ) ALDERSHOT , JULY 5 Approximately 30,000 people have visited the Aldershot Show during the four days it has been in progress , and the largest attendance of the four was that of to - day , when the event was brought to a highly successful conclusion . For the first time on record the two principal trophies were secured by one horse - the King's Challenge Cup for the best of the Aldershot Command entries and the Royal Automobile Club's Challenge Cup for the best horse in the show . This dis tinction was gained by Frontier II . , a bay gelding by Frontino , owned by Captain H. Lumsden , of the 12th Royal Lancers , who is at the Staff College , Camberley . When Captain Lumsden entered this horse he could scarcely have anticipated that it would carry off the two most coveted trophies , as until then it was in the novice class . It was chosen by the judges as the best of the 15 horses which paraded for the King's Cup , and later in the afternoon the same judges put it at the head of the horses competing for the R.A.C. Cup , among which were winners of all the open classes . the " B " Squadron - 1930 ( amb " A " and " B " Squadrons . Helwan Camp 1929 38 39 1930 POLO AUTUMN HANDICAP TOURNAMENT . The Alexandria Autumn Handicap Tournament for H.M.'s Cup . began on Saturday last ... Six teams are entered . The opening match be tween the XIIth Lancers , who carried all the heavy guns , and the Wiltshires , showed the lat ter up in a very favourable light . Although outs played and outponied they stuck to their work . and receiving 6 1/2 goals were beaten in the end by 9 goals to 6 1/2 . The second day's play asaw the XIIth rather overwhelm the R.H.A. ( rec . 3 1/2 ) in a good galloping game . The combination of the R.H.A. appeared to be at fault at moments and the XIIth , already better mounted than their oppo nents , were not the team to let these opportuni ties slip by . The R.H.A. scored twice , once in each half , through Heath and Pelham - Burn , but the XIIth piled up the goals mainly through the agency of Lt. Col. Charrington and Arkwright , running out easy winners by 10 to 5 1/2 . The Alexandria Autumn Tournament continu ed on the 10th , 13th and 15th with the same keenness which had characterised its opening . On the Wednesday the R.H.A. defeated Alex andria by 5 goals to 2 1/2 , the latter only score ing once . Alexandria had to do some re - shuffling and an accident to their No. 1 , at the end of the third chukka , settled their hash . D The XIIth had no difficulty in disposing of the 13 / 18th , in receipt of 4 goals , by eight goals to 5 after a good gallop . The third game , between the 10th Hussars and the Wiltshires , ended in the former , who con ceded 4 goals their opponents , -running out winners by 11 goals to 6 . This game , during the third chukka was enliv ened by a Rodeo display consisting of some bitless riding and a life - saving exhibition , in which Captain Heath and Messrs . Wingfield . Mannering and Archer - Shee , successfully brought down the house . The organisation of the " meet ing " might , with advantage , have kept this dis play for the Saturday , when Lieut . Col. P.S. Rowan and the Officers of the Wiltshire Regi ment were " At Home " on the polo ground . The Frumour that there was free tea in the offing , both Chink and Hieland , brought a large and thirsty gathering to the scene of the fray and we feel sure it would have enjoyed the Rode in the intervals of discussing the offside rule & t polo or the etiquette of " Pushing one another in that funny way " or whatever it is that thirsty gatherings discuss when faced with a game cf polo ( vide Mr. Tatler ) . The XIIth again gave us an object lesson , in how to make polo look easy , the 10th being , their victims on this occasion ; the 13 / 18th , after an inauspicious start put paid to the account of Alexandria , who struck a bad patch in the middle of the game , and the R.H.A. disposed of the Wiltshires by the narrow margin of half a goal , which was greatly to the credit of the latter . The Acting High Commissioner favoured our hosts with his presence . The last day of the Tournament brought no surprises , the XIIth running out winners of His Majesty's Cup with an unbeaten record , after easily defeating Alexandria . The 10th took some consolation away by defeating the R.H.A. after a good game , while the 13 / 18th proved too strong for the Wiltshires . Although the XIIth outclassed the rest of the field the Tournament proved a success and the play , taking into account the discrepancy in the ponies , proved more even than had been hoped . Altogether a pleasing diversion to jaded by boredom and damp heat . YA CHAMPION POLO PONY . Champion Polo Pony.-Lt. K. C. C. Smith , 12th Lancers . Champion Man - at - Arms . - Sgt .
