POLO AT GEZIRA .
Our artist's impressions of the Public Schools Cup tournament , which was reported in our issue of last week and resulted in the win by the Old Wykehamists ' " A " team ( Major Miller , Mr. Saville , Mr. Horsbrugh Porter , and Major Pope ) , who are depicted above .
lo
Mr. M.E.B. Sparke on his own
horse , Montjoie , with which he won the Brigade Cup last Sunday ;
The start was
not of the happiest , but Mirsal got away well and was soon established in a substantial lead though he weakened in the straight , when Mont joie , carrying bottom weight , challenged him and , spiritedly ridden by his owner , Mr. M.E.B. Spar ke , went on to win by the appreciable margin of four lengths . Maamul made a gallant attempt to close with the winner in the last stages of the race and made an admirable run in , thereby beating Shammari by a neck for second place . Capt . Groves , who unfailingly participates in these events , again finished well placed , his mount The country on this occasion being Maamul . bred race , as third item on the programme , was run with but one scratching and created intense interest as the only event of its kind for some weeks . of Seven horses paraded and these Mohamed Sultan's Phanova received most sup port at the tote . The race was in every way excellent and the winner , in Phanova , admirably ridden by Sharpe , gained pride of place in very decisive manner from Rivale , whose final effort was most praiseworthy . Tip Top , who earlier on in the race was in the lead , took third place at the finish .

CHRISTMAS CUP TOURNAMENT
Victory for " Juggernauts " .
an
This tournament ( for a cup presented by Major S.C. Heed ) attracted entry of ten teams , the conditions Deng as follows : four chukkers open to any team whose total handicap does not exceed 7 , but only one player of 3 or more handicap to be included in any one team ! The final , which was played on December 28 , brought together two 12th Lancers ' teams in the Juggernauts and the Pickles on level terms . The Juggernauts started the favourites , but in the first chukker it looked as if the Pickles would . run out easy winners , Major Rawnsley and Mr. Hobson scoring quick goals ; and it was not until the last minute of the chukker that Mr. Porter scored for the Juggernauts . The second chukker showed the Juggernauts a much improved side and they pressed continually , scoring goals through Mr. Smith and Mr. Spencer . The third chukker was a repetition of the second : the Jug gernauts continually pressed and Mr. Smith and Mr. Spencer had the hardest of hard lines in not scoring . When Mr. Smith eventually did score he was lucky in that Mr. Willis made two efforts to save and failed on each occasion . The Jug gernauts continued to be much superior in the fourth and last chukker and , with the exception of one or two solo efforts by Major Rawnsley and Mr. Hobson , were pressing all the time . Capt . Burne and Mr. Spencer scored further goals , making the final score six goals to two in the Juggernauts ' favour .
The teams in the final were as follows : " JUGGERNAUTS " : Mr. C.E. Spencer , Mr. K.C.C. Smith , Mr. A.M. Horsbrugh - Porter , and Captain E.O. Burne .
" PICKLES ' : Major J.R.C. Rawnsley , Mr. R.W. Hobson , Mr. J.H. Willis , and Mr. R.H. Palmer .
The Cavalry Cup , confined to gentlemen riders , was contested next and provided the first of the 1 mile races staged during the afternoon . At the gate Capt . Groves ' Maamul gave considerable . trouble and needed a safe corner to himself , but all got off well . The race was a good one and was concluded by Major Walshe winning in praiseworthy manner on Imbattable , one of the trio entered by Mr. Kidston , and all but one of which are trained by Capt . Hadden . Mr. Stirling ran a good second on Montjoie . Major Walshe will be remembered by many as a masterly ama teur who rode very consistently in these events on our courses a few years ago and is a welcome addition to the somewhat stationary ranks of our gentlemen riders .

INTER - REGIMENTAL CUP .
The final for this cup was played on the 30th inst . between the 12th Lancers and the 14 / 20th Hussars , and resulted in a win for the 14 / 20th by six goals to four . Among the spectators were H.E. Sir Percy Loraine , Lt. - Gen . Sir John T. Burnett - Stuart and Lady Burnett - Stuart ( who

graciously presented the cups ) , and Major - Gen . Sir Charlton Spinks Pasha .
The game started off at a very fast pace , Capt . Arkwright and Major Pope scoring quick goals for their respective sides , with Capt . Chaytor playing conspicuously well for the 14 / 20th . The 12th Lancers had much the better of the second chukker , but , although they pressed continuously , they were unable to score . Play commenced in the third period where it had left off in the second - that is , with the 12th continually press ing , but it was the 14 / 20th who scored from the only break - away they had , Major de Wend Fen ton getting a goal with a beautiful cross - shot from an almost impossible angle . The fourth might be called Major Pope's chukker , for he was play ing exceptionally well at this period and scored two good goals , to which Mr. Porter , however , immediately replied with a fine individual effort .
The 12th commenced the next period in very earnest style and two quick goals ( through Mr. Porter and Col. Hornby ) made the score 4 - all . The sixth ( and last ) chukker was the best of the game ; it was midway through this chukker when Major Pope scored for the 14 / 20th , and it was hammer and tongs from then on to the end , with the 12th all out for the equaliser . Almost on time , however , Capt . Chaytor put the issue beyond all doubt by scoring from halfway with a mighty drive .
The teams were as follows : 14 / 20TH HUSSARS : - Major A.V. Pope , Capt . J.D.G. Chaytor , Major J. de Wend Fenton , and Capt . R.A.G. Woodhouse .
12TH LANCERS : - Mr. G.J. Kidston , Lt. - Col . J.W. Hornby , Mr. A.M. Horsbrugh Porter , and Capt . R.H.B. Arkwright .
Mr. Porter ( 5 ) , Mr. Smith ( 3 ) , Mr. Smith ( 3 ) . Mr. Hobson ( 3 ) . The teams in the final were : COLDSTREAM GUARDS : -Sir W. de S. Barttellot , Mr. C.H. d'A . Willis , Mr. H.M.A. Sanford , and Mr. R. Dawnay ..
12TH ROYAL LANCERS : -Mr . K.E. Savill , Mr. R.W. Hobson , Mr. A.M. Horsbrugh - Porter , and Mr. K.C.C. Smith .
The Akbar Cup .
Any notes on the afternoon's racing would be incomplete without special mention being made of the Akbar Cup race , a popular annual event with officers stationed here , the institution of which was due to the generosity of that excellent sportswoman , Mrs. Chester Beatty , who was her self present to see the race run . To a vast number attending Shahraban seemed the bet to make , but he ran badly and did not at all enter into the spirit of the thing , finishing in the rut . Tabarin was certainly not expected to beat him , or in fact most of the others in the race , but got home by a short head in a splendidly fought out finish against Talal . Major Walshe , riding the latter , was again seen to great advantage in the saddle ; this veteran amateur must have been grievously disappointed at losing this coveted honour by the veriest fraction . Tabarin may be recalled as being owned by Mr. Horsbrugh Porter and was ridden by Mr. Dennistoun , Talal and his jockey have received mention , whilst the third horse , Rajah , was piloted by Capt . Stirling .
The Akbar Cup race resulted in a nice win for Mr. A.M. Horsbrugh Porter's Ta barin , on whom Mr. Denistoun rode a finish worthy of our professional jockeys , making up quite a lot of ground in the straight and gaining a short - head verdict from Mr. G.J. Kidston's Talal , ridden by Major Walshe , while Major R.H. Knowles ' Rajah came rather too late on the scene to have any hope of catching the leaders , although he succeeded in robbing Hag Murad of minor honours .

Talal , Tim , Hag Murad , Tabarin , Rajah , Maamul and Shahraban the order practically all the way to the home turn . where they all closed up with the excep tion of the two last , who were still several lengths behind the others . On coming round Hag Mourad lost ground and Tabarin made tracks for the leader , just catching him in the nick of time to gain the verdict by a short - head while Rajah did Hag Mou rad out of minor honours .
