THE SECOND MEETING has been brought off with great Success by the sporting Honorary Secretary .
CINT
As I have before said the gallant 9th Lancers have leavened the new garrison of Umballa with their own sporting spirit , and helped to develop much that was already latent among the new arrivals . The waning sporting season cannot but regarded with some degree of concern by all who have looked forward with pleasure to these oft - recuring sporting
be
events at Umballa , for this is the last season of the 9th Lancers in the country . Umballa is fortunate , however , in the new regiment that is on the roster to replace the 9th Lancers . The Queen's Boys made a great name for themselves when in India last , and the names of Seymour , Lukin , Alfrey and Gough are still household words in the annals of Indian racing . It is to be hoped the character for sport is still main tained in the regiment .
The racing during the two days which is fully described below has been very good . The attendance on each day was large , and the excellent bands of the 9th Lancers and the Highland Light Infantry played some choice selections of music successively on the two days .
