In the Trial Stakes Blackthorn , was made favourite , and fully justified the confidence by winning easily . Black Satin , whose form has improved , wonderfully , ran very well in this race , while Warrego was almost out of it , Rox again came out for the Galloway Plate . Elf on his Dehra form was made second favorite , while it was generally considered the race was as good as won by Rex . This wonderful pony ran a great race with Elf , and won on the post by a head . Elf is a young horse and next season promises to be a power in his popular owner's stable Fleur - de - Lys seems to have seen little out in this race owing to her leg . There was one drawback , that the steeplechase was run , if not in the dark , in very bad light . The Dwarf Chase fell through at the last , all the ponies entered being scratched , and two other events being reduced to walk over . At the lotteries the evening previous a country bred pony handicap was framed to fill up the programme , and the ad justment of weights was so satisfactory that five acceptances were easily obtained , and a very good race was provided . For the chase Hector was made favorite , but the horse lacks condition , and it was their good riding that brought the horse , so well at the finish . FIRST RACE.-C. B. Pony Handicap . Rs . 10 .
