THE KADIR CUP , 1882 . P : 1882.00 The 11th April was fixed for the first day of the contest , and the evening of the 10th saw a goodly number of sportsmen of the right sort assembled at Ghurmuktesur . After dinner a lottery paper was soon filled , in which Maidan and Sutlej were made the favourites , and early the next morning the sport began . The following are the ties as they were drawn , the first horse on the list being the winner of each tie :

The camp was moved on the 13th to Jhurrena , the jheels and ravines en route being beaten , but to little purpose . No. I tie , however got away , Mr. Bryan getting first blood on Maidan . No. III . tie ( minus Quicksilver lamed in a run in the morning ) started after a slow boar , where Moorcock had the best of it at first , but Mr. Baden - Powell pushed Etropol to the front , and was well on to his pig when a sudden jink proved too much for the keen little Arab , who , in turning , snapped his near hind leg literally in half , at the cannon bone , and had to be immediately despatched . Major Knox deserved , and obtained , much sympathy for an accident that caused the loss of as game a little horse as ever followed pig , succeeding an accident to e himself on the polo ground that prevented him from riding his own horses for the Cup . In tie No. II . Captain Braithwaite was first on the pig , but Mahomed Jan coming down over a tussock , he got a bad fall and broke his collar - bone , and Mr. Bryan again scored .
The final heat only remained , consisting of Hon'ble G. Bryan's Grey Dawn , Mr. Bishop . Mr. Fisher's Maidan , Mr. Bryan .

Lowry's Moorcock , Owner . Moorcock had the legs of the 10th Hussars ' horses , but his rider missed his chance . So did Mr. Bryan on Maidan , and it was left to Mr. Bishop on Grey Dawn to be fortunate enough at one coup to flesh his maiden spear and win the Kadir Cup . Mr. Bryan has now won the Ganges Cup twice , and the Kadir once , all well deserved rewards for keeping good horses and

Everything was admirably managed by Captain Rochfort , the Honorary Secretary of the Meerut Tent Club , who has done good work for the Club all this season , and whose approaching departure will cause much regret to all who love sport and a good fellow . - Pioneer .

Major Hon'ble H. Legge's ( 9th Lancers ) Patchouli .. All the horses were ridden by their owners , with the exception of Maidan ridden by Mr. Bryan , Surprise by Mr. Colvin , Rocket and Arthur by Captain Harbord , A.-D.-C. , and Etropol by Mr. Mansel and by Mr. Baden - Powell .
On the morning of the 11th , Captain Rochfort had his field marshalled on the banks of Ghurmuktesur jheel . Pigs were plentiful , and no less than five ties were run off the first mor ning , the best of the sport having been seen by tie No. 6 who had a fast run after a good young boar right in the open , who fell to Mr. Mansel's spear on Etropol .
In the evening the ground east of the camp was beaten , but though there were plenty of pig , the high grass forbade all hard riding , and no blood was shed . The next morning too was a disappointment , but the evening saw them merrily at work again . Major Covey got a good spear on Ghuznee to compensate him for an accident in the morning that put his horse Chance out of the running , and wins were scored by Captain Braith waite and Mr. Bryan . This finished the first ties , and the second heats were drawn in the evening as follows :
