Transcription How much beloved he was .
after leaving Eton , " Dear Charlie ! The wonder " Masters and boys have written to me about him . was that such devotion never turned his head in the least . " When he was here for that week he was a boy again - just As for the " as simple - joining the boys in all they did . " boys , even the smallest , they adored him . "
In the beautiful little school chapel at Stone House there hangs a IX Lancer Flag to his memory , put up by his father , with a brass plate below giving his name , date of death , etc. His name is also on the Bronze War Memorial outside the Chapel on the East Wall .
At the Queen's Hospital , Roehampton , for the provision of limbs for disabled soldiers , Charlie's father endowed a bed to his memory above which is a tablet with his name on it . This is known as the Garstin bed .
In Canterbury Cathedral there is a beautiful Memorial to the IX Lancers on the South wall of the nave just outside the warriors chapel . His name is also in the book of remembrance retained in the Cathedral which contains the names of all Ranks of the Regiment killed in the Great War .
