A deputation of Chiefs from a recently formed tribal State is in London to impress the British people with the justness of their claim to rank among the nations , and as evidence of their highly civilised state , they give a display of some of their ordinary methods of recreation . Their feats include Pegging with Knives , taking Handkerchiefs from the ground at the gallop , Cossack Riding , and other items of interest . THE DEPUTATION : N.C.O.s of the 12th Royal Lancers . TOURNAMENT MAY 24th to June 9th 1923 . SOME CUTTINGS FROM Musical Ride by 12th Royal Lancers ( Prince of Wales's ) . The Musical Double Ride by the 12th Royal Lancers will include evolutions at the Trot and Canter , a display of training with the lance and a charge from either end of the arena . The Musical Double Ride was introduced into the Tournament programme in 1882 by the Ist Life Guards , and so great was its success that it has been a feature ever since . Musical Rides have been given in succession by many famous regiments of British Cavalry , and each year these displays seem to increase in -merit . Much that is new has been introduced recently , and the incomparable stateliness of the displays has been added to by admirable demon strations of riding - school methods . OLYMPIA This NEWSPAPERS year both these features enter into the displays , and it is doubtful whether the public realise the amount of pains and patience that is packed up in the preparation of these attractive spectacles . It is obvious that only with highly disciplined men and horses are such striking results attainable as those which are annually exhibited at Olympia , But , apart from this , the Musical Ride when carried out , as it always is at the Tournament , to perfection , means the exercise of very uncommon care and foresight , in order not so much to produce a certain effect , as to prevent even trivial mistakes , a single one of which would mar the beauty of the whole performance . The Ride has been given in recent years by the following regiments : 21st Lancers , Ist Life Guards , Royal Scots Greys , Royal Horse Guards , 3rd Hussars , 2nd Life Guards , 18th Hussars , 5th Dragoon Guards , the French Cavalry School and the 17th Lancers . |
