P. juunping the 4th Hussain POLO The Subalterns Tournament A correspondent writes . - The semi - finals of this tournament were played at Potchef stroom on Wednesday . The weather was perfect , and there was a large attendance . Unfortunately , the games were rather in terfered with by dust . The first match was between the 12th Hussars and the 6th Mounted Infantry from Standerton . The game from first to last was loose , and ac curacy in hitting was conspicuous . The 6th M.I. were largely handicapped , owing to their No. 2 ( Mr. Kennedy ) having a very bad right hand , which interfered with his hitting . The ponies of the 12th Hus sars showed up to advantage , and com pletely outpaced their opponents . game resulted in a win for the 12th Hus sars by four goals to two . The teams were : The 12th Hussars : Messrs . Cripps , Neilson , Bell , and Stokes . 6th Mounted Infantry : Messrs . Leslie , Kennedy , Colmore , and Jefferson . B " The second match was played between the 9th Lancers " A " and the 9th Lancers " B " teams , and resolved itself into a good game . The form displayed by the team came as a surprise to those who knew the two teams . In the early stages , from some loose play in front of " B " team goal , the Earl of Rooksavage scored easily . Play in mid - ground for some considerable time eventually terminated in Hesketh breaking away and scoring . The " A " team then appeared to pull themselves together , and had several ineffectual shots at " B " team goal . Though the " A " team pressed very hand at this period of the game , the fine clean hitting of Porter at back prevented their scoring . Good play between Hesketh and Grenfell , well fed by Porter , main tained the balance of the game . Towards the latter stages of the match the A ' team made its superiority felt , und Ed wards , breaking away , scored rapidly twice in succession . The score on the rumpet counding the halt was six goals o three in favour of the " A " team . The teams were : 9th Lancers " A " : Messrs . Reyn de , Ed wards , the Earl C cksavage , and R. Brocklebank . 9th Lancers " B " : Messrs . Nei.son , Hes keth , Grenfell and Porter . THE FINAL . [ FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT . ] POTCHEFSTROOM , Friday .
