I think you would be interested

is doing A.D.C. to the Governor of the United Provinces and stopped back in India after the Ninth went home partly for that purpose and partly to hunt pig . That's the second Grenfell to win the Kadir . Arthur is a real genuine pig catcher and just the sort of fellow who de serves to win , though many a good man like him has just not been spared that little bit of bad luck which so often creeps in to spoil one's chances . Australian Star is a grand stamp of waler and has been at the game longer than Arthur ; he must be about eighteen now . I first knew him when Toler - Aylward of the Bays brought him down to hunt at Muttra with me in the summer of 1924. After that Moulton - Barrett of the 4th / 7th D.G.s had him . believe the horse was called Rufus at one time , and brought him to hunt with us at Meerut . I

Forty - five years ago to - day Blackburn was enjoying one of its rare Royal visits . The visitors wer the Prince and Princess of Wales , later King Edward VII . and Queen Alexandra , and during the day the Prince laid the foundation stone of the present Technical College . It was an historic occasion in the his tory of the town , for it was the first time that Royalty had set foot in Blackburn with the exception , of course , of the fleeting visit paid by Prince Rupert in 1644 , when he passed through the vil lage , as it was then , on his way to fight the battle of Marston Moor . The ninth of May , 1888 , was a Thursday . weather was glorious , with brilliant sun shine , and as warm as a summer's day .
The
The town was decorated as it has never been since , and the entire route was lined with tall Venetian masts linked with ropes of flowers and festoons of rib bons .
Triumphal arches spanned the
roadway , and the whole population of the town , in addition to tens of thou sands from other parts of East Lanca shire , gave a great welcome to their Highnesses , who drove through the streets in a State carriage , sent down from London , with an escort of the 9th Lancers ,
Those who remember the day recall that one of the most striking memories they retain of the procession is that of the drummer's white charger , the gift of the Queen , it was said .

The Gallant Grenfells .
JUST as history repeats itself so certain
families assert themselves in certain spheres . A striking instance is the recent capture of the Kadir cup won by Capt . Arthur Grenfell , son of the late Field Marshall Lord Grenfell . This is regarded as the blue ribbon of sport in India and has been won twice previ ously by members of the Grenfell family -once by Capt . Charles Grenfell , brother
of Lord Desborough and the late Capt .

Rivy Grenfell , one of the famous twins , both of whom were killed in the war . These twins used to stay with their uncle , Lord Grenfell , at Overstone , and when one of them , Captain Francis Gren fell , won the V.C. and was badly wounded in the early stages of the war he was invalided home . He was asked to accept a home appointment , but despite the severity of his wound he rsuaded
a medical board at Northampton to declare him fit for further active service . He went back to the front and was killed in his next engagement .

The pig then jinked complete ly about and let in Captain Mockler well ahead of the others and his attempt to spear only missed by inches . Col. Norrie then came up and speared quickly .
LONG GALLOP
After a short rest the line continued with the three finalists , Captain Wool dridge umpiring . The heat was slipped almost immediately on a 29 - inch boar which broke at the extreme left of the ne and unfortunately for spectators took a line away from the elephants . he heat had a long gallop up before they could be slipped and it looked odds Colonel against the heaviest weight . Norrie was first up and kept on to the pig in a good fast hunt for the first half mile . The pig jinked left , letting in Captain Grenfell , who delivered a light attempt , spear at his first Colonel Norrie spearing a moment later . The winning horse , Australian Star ,
is 21 years of age and was in the semi final of the Kadir Cup of 1931 .
After lunch two hoghunter races were run off near Sherpur over a five mile course of typical hunting coun

The heavy - weight race was run first and a field of 15 faced the starter . The race was run at a fast pace and resulted in good deal of grief , Captain Adye's Bat Deaf falling , when leading not far from home . Captain Roddick's Bed Socks beat Mr. Ferguson Davies ' Squea last ker which was leading over the nullah , Captain Boord's M.G. being third . In the light - weight race Cap tain Atherton's Refugee just won from Captain Harvey's Tiger Tim , with Mr. Palmer's The Cat third .
