In the Baths . The enclosure of this Bath was packed to its utmost with first lap Handley picked up a spectators who showed great en- great deal and immediately after thusiasm in every event . the turn spurted and finished a great first by about two yards . This was easily the best race of the afternoon . For the third time in succession , the 12th . Royal Lancers have suc ceeded in carrying away the team Championship , a performance that is envied by all the units in the Command . The runners up were the Royal Tanks Corps , who were hot on the heels of the Lancers in near ly every event , winning two of those . There was improvement Variety Race . This proved in the end another success for the Tanks after the Lancers leading for the first two lengths . The King's were disquali fied . The committee under the Presi Plunging . dency of Brig . J. The programme with the 75 yards relay , which after a great race was won by the Tanks . At the end of the first lap ali were equal but the pace open ed a bit in the second when the Lancers ' and the Tanks ' second swimmers took off at the 180 Yards Relay . At the first this race was very dull . When the last men took over the Lancers held an enor mous lead with the King's lying second and the Tanks a bad third . This was another great ef fort by Handley and if ever any swimmer deserved success , he deserved it in that race . His first four laps were well above the average and in his last he went all out and only failed to come second same by the touch , after being over time with the Guards third and half lap in arrears from the a the Signals last . This lap gave the King's swimmer who was second . Lancers a hit of a lead , which , by a good effort by Ellis was CAIRO - 1931 Unit Relay . This was a three cornered affair , the teams being the Tanks , Lancers and the Guards . The Guards and Lancers were in the front when the Tanks were disqualified . Boy Mel ville showed extraordinary speed in the last lap for the Lancers and with a magnificent spurt carried off honours for his side from . the Guards who were not far away . By winning this , the Lancers were put six points ahead of any other team in the meeting . Diving . No dives such as was seen in the Open Competition were witnessed in the team diving , but it must be said that all dives were very neatly performed . The Tanks were most unfortunate in not having the ser vices of Treby , the Indvidual Cham pion , to perform for them in this event , he being in hospital . The Lancers won this event by eleven clear points . WATER POLO . 12th Lancers 2. R.T.C. . The Tanks won the toss and de fended the deep end . Both goals had narrow escapes in the opening minutes . The Tanks were then mostly under pressure , only spas modic raids giving relief to their goalkeeper . About four minutes from the start , in attempting to save a high shot from McClusky , Hughes , who seemed to be just a little nervous , punched the ball through his own goal in attempting to clear . Just before half time the Lancers had hard lines in not in creasing their lead , two good shots hitting the cross bar and rebound ing into play . Half time result . 12th . Lancers 1 . Royal Tank Corps . One minute after the restart the Lancers were awarded a penalty from which McClusky netted easily . The Lancers ' superiority was very much pronounced this half as the Tanks were mostly on the defensive .. The Lancers netted another goal which was dissallowed as the ball was n played properly . For fouling , Langford got sent out of the bath , this making it a little more easy for the Tanks who could not reduce the leeway , leaving the Lancers winners when the final whistle blew by two clear goals . 12th R.
