As they settled down to their work , the native on Chalouf went out a cracker , but the Arab was done with after he had gone a quarter of a mile , and Whale bone taking up the running came round the turn for home , and with Petrarch and Bosphorus a couple of lengths behind him led to the dis tance where Mr. Drummond called on his horse , who answering gamely came away and stalling off a challenge of Whalebone's landed the stakes for his sporting owner by a length in 1min . 32 secs . A. 30th Second Day , Tuesday , as good as that on the firs The day's racing day . one was The long interval between the two dates is due to the excessive wet weather we have had . It commenced to rain the day after the first day's races were held , yet the lotteries were held in the evening , and that day would dawn with a clear sky , and a bright sun would evaporate the wet in a few hours ; but these expectations were not realized , and the wet weather continued for three full days . The country was one sheet of water , and all racing out of the question ; in fact the course was affected in an extra degree . There is a heavy layer of litter laid down which had absorbed a vast amount of water , and the rat holes , the course 11-7 11-0 Sir Galahad , 10-7 Khedive , 10-7 Chalouff , 10.J Black , white belt , Viceroy , 11-7 Red , black cap , Race.-Rs. 40. A handicap for all pouies beaten the All this required time to remedy , and Captain Bather , the Honorary Secretary , set to the task with a good will , and a week after the first day , the second day's events were brought . The weather , after the downpour , had become excessively pleasant , and this perhaps , as a on In the interregnum more lotteries were held to keep up the flagging interests sport . A good number of pots boiled over , favorites behaving badly . Per . haps the only exception was Scimitar , who was made a strong favorite for the Pony Chase and went out from the start at his usual pace , and , jumping without a mistake , won with ease . Sir Galahad was never considered of much account for the fourth event , and his owner some very on landed to the dismay of the rest of the field were favorites in a greater or less degree . cleverly all of which With the vast number of polo ponies in Umballa at persent , of which the public can form some idea when I say that three games on an average are played nearly every day , yet only three ponies came to the post for the Polo Stakes . Polly had the legs of her field through Honorary Secretary . and event on the card , and after an excellent race Jessie was landed a ESCOL winner . The gallant Borderers scored three out of the five events to - day , and a like number on the first day , so they have not done badly . 11-7 Black , red belt , Blue and yellow , 11-4 Straw , blue stripes , 11-2 10-7 10-7 10-5 10-4 9-7 French grey and cardinal , Owner .
