CAMERON , C.B. The above regiment ( under command of Colonel W. Caulfield Pratt ) formed up in line on Rushmoor Hill , at 11 a.m. on Wednesday , for inspection by Major - General W. G. Cameron , C.B. Shortly after the formation , the General , accompanied by Captain E. Z. Thornton , A.D.C. , arrived on the ground . The weather being extremely bad , the General gave the order to form quarter - column on No. 1 Company i the column then ormed fours right and wheeled up to the left , when Major . - General Cameron said " Colonel Pratt , officers , non - commissioned officers , and men of the Royal Bucks ( King's Own ) Militia , although I do not mean to do much now , this has been no superficial inspection . I have seen you now at almost everything , I have seen you at the new attack , and considering the short time for preparation you have had , you performed it very creditably . I saw you at the commencement of your training in heavy marching order ; had I wished to see you at your best , I should have waited until the end of your training ; but I wanted to see what a Militia Regiment could do , and I confess , I was agreeably surprised and much gratified by what I saw . I have seen you at your ordinary battalion drill , I have been to the men's tents , the sergeants ' mess , the canteen , and the men's recreation tents , and found them all that could be desired . Colonel Pratt takes the most lively , indeed , an affectionate interest in the regiment , and I am delighted to see the men so willing and desirous of learning their duties . The conduct of the men during their stay at Aldershot has been remarkably good , the defaulters , I believe out of 700 , amounting to only 10 . Now men , when you go home don't forget all you have learnt , take a pride in yourselves as soldiers , and when you have nothing else to do , let the men who live in the same village come together for mutual instruction in drill , so that when you come out next year you will be able to give instruction - not want it . This is the first regiment of Militia that I have had under my command , and I expect to see few that are better or as good as you . I don't know that I have anything more to say except that I am most gratified , and hope to have you under my command next year . I am not in the habit of praising regiments if I do not think they deserve it , sometimes I say nothing whatever . " The Royal Bucks left camp on Friday morning , and proceeded by special train at 10 a.m. from Aldershot Town Station , South - Eastern Railway , en route to High Wycombe , on conclusion of their training .
