FUNERAL OF IRISH VICTIM . Capt . Roger Grenville Peck , of the 9th Lancers , con of the late Sir Cuthbert Peek and of Dowager Lady Peek , Widworthy Court , who was killed in an ambush a week ago , was buried at Loddiswell yester day . The coffin was borne by members of the deceased officer's unit , and a troop of Lancers acted as a firing and lance party , D.E. 30. 3 Funeral CAPTAIN R , G. PEEK . VICTIM OF IRISH AMBUSH . The funeral of Captain Roger Granville Peek took place at Loddiswell churchyard yesterday , amid signs of general mourning in the village , where the family are held in high esteem . The deceased , who was at tached to the 9th Lancers , was shot through the forehead in an ambush by Sinn Feiners in Ireland on March 23rd . The body was brought across on Friday , accompanied by Major Kemple and seven men , and on Satur day was rested in the chapel schoolroom at Hazlewood , the country seat of the deceased . Yesterday the casket was placed on a gun carriage , and accompanied by a troop of the 9th Lancers from Tidworth , under Lieut . Dalgety , with a firing party and buglers to the churchyard , where it was met by the Bishop of Glasgow ( Dr. Campbell ) , the Rev. W. Hodges ( Vicar ) , the Rev. J. H. H. Copleston ( Rector of Offwell ) , and the Rev. J. F. Starforth ( Vicar of Axmouth ) , who took part in the service . As the cortege entered the church the organist ( Mr. J. Crou playe " O rest in the Lord . " and as they retired the Dead March from " Saul . " The hymns sung were , " For all the Saints , " The King of love my shepherd , " and " On the Resurrection Morn , " while the 90th Psalm was chanted . The mourners were the Hon . Mrs. Peek ( widow ) , the Hon . Lady Peok mother ) , Sir Wilfrid Peek ( brother ) , Lieutenant - Colonel and Mrs. Hamilton ( brother - in - law and sister ) , Mr. and Mrs. Benyon ( brother - in - law and sister ) , Miss K. Peak ( sister ) , Lord Basing ( brother in - law ) . Capt . A. Bell ( brother - in - law ) , Col. Slater - Booth ( uncle ) , Lord Cottesloe , Lord and Lady Midleton , the Hon . Lady White head , Sir John and Miss Shelley , Colonel the Hon . Arthur Brodrick , Major J. F. Shelley , Mr. and Mrs. P. F. C. Williams , Lieut . R. Shelley , R.N. , Mr. L. Allhusen , the Misses Allhusen ( 2 ) , Mrs. Massey , Major A. H. Wilkie ( Hursley Park ) , the Hon . Mrs. Gell , Colonel Birdwood ( Colmer ) , and Lieut. Colonel Cavendery . There were also a large . number of mourners from the district pre sent . The service at the graveside was con ducted by the Bishop of Glasgow . The coffin was rested in a grave lined with moss , daffodils , primroses , magnolias , and lilies , arranged by the gardeners from Widworthy Court ( Lady Peek's residence ) and from Hazelwood . At the close the firing party fired three rounds , and the buglers sounded the " Last Post . " There were a large number of handsome wreaths , etc. , both from the family and friends , from the officers of deceased's regiment , and from Ireland . W. M.
