1835 37 H CA May : 1835 . Two troops of the 12th Lancers marched into Dorchester barracks last Saturday , from Abergavenny . June 3 , 1835 . 12th Lancers -- A troop marched into Chichester barracks on Saturday last . Newcastle , June 10th , 1835 . WAREHAM , June 2. - Our town has been much enlivened during the past week by the Wareham and Purbeck Troop of Yeomanry Cavalry , under the command of Captain Bond , which has been assembled here for six days ' training and exercise . They have undergone a regular system of foot drill and practice of the sword exercise ( in addition to their daily ma noeuvres in the field ) under the direction of Serjeant Bradshaw , of the 12th Lancers . August 25th , 1835 . 12th Royal Lancers - Captain Vandeleur's troop marched into Weymouth barracks on the 25th inst . from Christchurch . April , 1836 . 12th Lancers The troop recently quartered in Weymouth barracks marched to Dorchester under the command of Capt . the Vandeleur , on Saturday last , for Coventry . On Monday head - quarters marched from Dorchester . A squadron , under Major Barton , will remain until the 22d , when they will march for Northampton , and be succeeded by the Royal Irish Dra goon Guards . Sir R. H. " - A Sergeant of the 12th Lancers appeared before the Mayor of Leicester to prefer a complaint against a person that had received a shilling from him , and on inquiry it turned out that the man had lately been discharged from the army . - The Sergeant walked up to the table , when the following dialogue ( similar to the Scarborough affair ) ensued : -The Mayor - It is usual , when persons have business to transact , or wish to address the bench , to take their hats off . The Sergeant - It is not usual for a soldier to do so , under any circumstances . Mayor Indeed . Sergeant - I have been before his Majesty , and never took off my hat , even in his presence . Mayor - Ob very well , keep it on . Now go on with your complaint. Leicester Herald . May , 1836 . 12th Lancers - The remaining squadron has left Doncaster , on route to Coventry . MONDAY , AUGUST 1 . 12th Lancers - The two troops quartered at Northampton were reviewed by Major - General Sir Charles Dalbiac , K.C.H. , on Monday last , at the barracks . The General ex pressed himself gratified with their discipline , and the preci sion and exactness with which they went through the various exercises . |
